Wide receiver recruits

Post by duckgrad99 »

Does anyone have a good reason as to why Oregon cannot seem to get "big time wide receivers" recently? Is it that our offense is mainly run oriented? Other than Scott and Davis, Oregon hasn't gotten anyone major at that position the last 3-4 years. What happened to guys like Parker, Howry and Williams? I mean we always have an exciting offense and usually one of the top offenses in the country.

Have faith in Cantu, Jordan, Embry, Holland and the rest, these guys are good they are just inexperienced. No matter what recruits we get the guys on the roster have more D1 experience than any recruit

anybody know what Sammie and Demetrius were rated?

I wan't to have faith but I feel like we are not getting the intrest that a program like our should be getting at that position. I really was concerned as this season went on what the opinion of recruits would be with our run first offense. We need to have talent at WR and make sure we are able to mix it up. Masoli came on at the end but I know you fellow duckies remember the five or six game stretch from Purdue-Cal when we couldn't throw the ball to save our life. I am afraid that this may have given some of the schools we are competing against some bullets to use against us with recruits........ Am I nuts or is there some agreement out there?

I agree. I mean our offense is already great, but imagine what we could do with 1 or 2 "playmaking" wide receivers? Maybe that comes next season with Harper, Davis, Holland, etc, but I'm just kind of worried after the last few years. We have had some good receivers, but nobody that has really stood out and could be counted on every game. We have had special qb's and running backs, I want the trifecta!!!!

We haven't seen our current receivers develop yet so we don't know if we have big time receivers yet.

Lets wait until signing period is pasted before we start to panic about what we haven't got...its not over yet and we are in it for many great WRs and I like you am hoping we get our fair share but we do have a number of WRs on our roster that will make an impact sooner than these new recruits!

I do think that the adjustment period that Masoli had hurt us in recruiting WR's this year. We became a run only team for a while and that had to be a turnoff, McNeal even commented on it. I think that as Masoli gets more comfortable in the offense, we will start passing the ball better and should generate more interest next season.

I think that Dixon ran the offense the way that Kelley wants it to be run. This season was a different offense because we had a QB that wasn't comfortable in it for a large chunk of the year so we adapted.

Once we get the offense clicking the recruits will come. This offense isn't suppose to be a just run offense. We have plenty of game tape and stats from the past couple of years that proves they will get the ball. Now that we have some good quarterbacks it is only a matter of time til we get another blue chip WR.
