That's false. He's first-team:

I guess anything is possible. Reed was recruited by major programs though.

He is not listed on the Scout or Rivals databases, for what reason, I don't know. But I know him and his older brother (old baseball teammates in high school). I haven't been able to contact him, but according to his older brother, he got a full ride and accepted. He is a 2009 commit. He is 6'5 215, plays WR/LB. Piedmont High is the school that has been made famous for creating the A-11 offense.
Kudos KOD. I was wrong and my helping of crow is rotten. Yuck.

Except Reed was a 4* & recruited by a lot of big schools. If the coaches like the kid I'm fine with it.

Is he likely to stay a 1 star? Whether he succeeds or not, this is odd. The top schools in the country don't recruit "diamonds in the rough" like this guy.

Actually, that is only the BSAL. That's only 1 of many conferences in the Bay Area. He is honorable mention for the "All Bay Area" team and firs team for the "BSAL."

I am sorry for doubting you, too, KOD! But, I still maintain that this is pretty weird and I hope that it is not a bad sign...!

Very strange pick up but maybe will work out. I've been watching this "A11" at piedmont and it is a joke. The league they are in has been historically weak with the exception of one team. I find it hard to see this kid playing big time d1 ball but hopefully he can work hard and prove me wrong.

Was my post directed at you...or guilty conscience maybe!

I guess I should start by saying settle down! The coaches offer scholarships to recruits they feel can help the team, fall back guys are not offered schoolies unless other players the coaches were after fell thru. So either a player the coaches were after fell thru or the COACHES REALLY WANTED THIS GUY!!

As far as past years a players we did not get for whatever reason, dude let it go its the past! If you didn't lie the past coaching decisions don't worry a new staff is on its way. As far as Telemaque goes I wanted him as well but he choose UM over us so the coaches went in another direction and it doesn't matter I really like the safeties we have and I'm not worried what could have been!

With that said I understand some like to blame others when things don't go as they like I tend to roll with it and move on...

This recruiting class at the end of the day will be great...I know it!

GO DUCKS!!
I was responding to your post and it should be irrelevant whether or not it was directed towards me. The beauty of this message board is that people make posts and other people respond to them. What this has to do with a guilty conscience I do not know, your innuendo was lost on me.

BTW, your info on Telemaque is wrong. We dropped him well before he signed with Miami, and it simply was because we didn't have room. He wanted to sign with Oregon. Your advice in telling me to calm down wreaks of speculation. I was just stating an opinion after all and from reading it over again I found nothing in my post that would lead someone to believe that I was overreacting. A contrarian opinion is too often taken the wrong way and for that much of the blame lies in our own misconceptions. I'll pardon you for that as it's a common mistake.

My point was that Telemaque would most likely be competing for serious playing time THIS COMING year at Oregon had we not yanked his offer. Why we reserve offers for projects, yet turn down a blue chipper who wanted to come here is something worth talking about as it reflects entirely on the coaching staff and their decision-making. To say that "it's in the past" is the wrong way to go about talking about job performance. The past is ALL that matters with reference to informed observance and future predictability.

Not sure about your Laidet comparison...he played 8 man football in southern Oregon and was a signing day suprise. More like Michael Speed was. Neither had other offers. I think Laidet may be at Montana St. now. Bair originally signed and went on a Mormon mission. He did have offers and signed again when he returned. He played last season. Did you expect him to start over Nick Reed? This Arden kid played in a very competative league and was offered by Boise St. along with Oregon. If he does grey shirt, and it sounds like he will, he will come in with the 2010 class. Nothing wrong with that...IMOP.
They were projects just as Keaton Arden is a project. I'm sorry, but if your best offer is from Boise St. you are most likely considered to be a project. What's even more telling is that Arden played in an area that tends to be scouted far more than Bonanza, OR or Rexburg, ID. Michael Speed was also a project who didn't work out as hoped.

I'll reserve judgment on Bair as he still has a couple of years to contribute. He is 24, though, and if nothing materializes this coming season, he will go down as another failed project. I hope he becomes what the coaches envisioned. As I do for Keaton Arden. It's always great when a player who is scouted and passed over ends up proving his doubters wrong. Don't get me wrong, I will be rooting for him.

Also,

You were right about Laidet. He is now at Montana St. He along with Brian Truelove, Ryan Phipps, Tucker Callahan, and other recent recruits who found out that they weren't Oregon material after a year or two in the program.
