Since so many questions arise about academic eligibility of prospects and/or incoming freshman, I did a little research.
This may look confusing, but this is the current NCAA qualifying chart... The first column represents Core GPA, the second and third columns represent the SAT and/or ACT scores that must be acheived to qualify academically with that GPA.
The SAT score used for NCAA purposes includes only the critical reading and math sections.
The ACT score is acheived by calculating the "Sum" of the scores attained on the individual elements of the ACT exam: English, Math, Reading, and Science. This total is used by the NCAA Clearinghouse in determining eligibility.
There are a total of 36 total points possible on each section of the ACT, for a total possible score of 154, so a student with a 2.2 Core GPA would need to get just over 50% of the multiple choice questions correct to qualify.

I don't know anyone couldn't get in with that kind of scale. I think you could get at least 400 points just for putting you name on the test and marking C for every answer.

Re: NCAA Qualifying GPA/SAT/ACT Score explanation
Back when I was an indifferent student, and the SAT was still 1400 Max, I scored an 1100... Truth be told, I was lazy in those days (At least as far as homework goes.), so I had around a 2.3 GPA.

Are you sure that's not the old SAT scale? Because even if it's just the Critical Reading + Math, that's ridiculously low.greenyellow wrote:I don't know anyone couldn't get in with that kind of scale. Moral of the story: you have to be pretty damn dumb and/or lazy not to get in.
