Oregon Admissions and JC Transfers
From what I've read and heard --- Leon and Crim won't be Ducks because of tough admissions/ and or screwups in advising for JC transfers, don't forget other players like Justin Thompson, Myles Wade, etc that couldn't transfer into Oregon.
That's A LOT of big time players we missed out on because of admissions standards, or recruits not following the right academic plan.
Who's shoulders does this fall on? Are coaches/ or academic advisers not giving these players the right information? There's no way there should be THIS MANY Junior College gets not able to get in to Oregon, especially when people like Myles Wade can still go to USC apparently, and Crim and Leon can go to Arkansas.

Oregon just needs to stop going after JUCO guys if they are trying to be like Stanford and have tough academic standards. Huge mistake by whoever makes these decisions if you ask me.oreducks77 wrote:From what I've read and heard --- Leon and Crim won't be Ducks because of tough admissions/ and or screwups in advising for JC transfers, don't forget other players like Justin Thompson, Myles Wade, etc that couldn't transfer into Oregon.

I don't honestly know much about this issue. Why guys can't get into Oregon, but can get into other schools blows me away. All I can say is it's terribly frustrating.

Yeah, this is interesting. Last time I checked, the acceptance rate was high for Oregon, even for a transfer student. I'm not sure what has changed.

i agree that these are huge misses for us but, when it comes down to looking for people to blame maybe, we should hold the players accountable for not qualifying in the first place.oreducks77 wrote:From what I've read and heard --- Leon and Crim won't be Ducks because of tough admissions/ and or screwups in advising for JC transfers, don't forget other players like Justin Thompson, Myles Wade, etc that couldn't transfer into Oregon.

By the way i did horrible in highschool and had to go to a j.c then just dropped out so im not some nerd that hates smart kids with athletic ability i just think we should stop blaming the system when these guys know exactly what it takes to get into the school they want well before its time to go there imo!

Well what it's coming down to is units not transferring, and the quarter system screwing kids in the semester system (most JC's, 95% of colleges in the country) and vice-versa. It seems that admissions is unwilling to cut kids some slack when the square won't fit through a round hole, if a kid has good enough grades and it comes down to some ticky-tacky unit transfer, thats just... well... lame.

Re: Oregon Admissions and JC Transfers
If they have decided to elevate transfer standards then whether it happens this year or next year it will affect some potential recruits, I doubt they are doing it this year only so they can exclude Leon/Wade/Crim admittance. Might be something we'll just have to get used to.

Is it official that Leon won't come to Oregon? Am I missing something?

The fact that he is visiting Cal leads me to believe there might not be admissions problems...

If Cal admits him and Oregon won't, there is something seriously wrong here, IMO.

Re: Oregon Admissions and JC Transfers
I have no problem with these recruits exploring all options. I do wonder though why so many of these kids commit to a school if they aren't sure that's where they want to go. I would suggest that they take all visits and then decide.
