Well on the positive side, for those who like recruiting rankings, this will improve the classes' average ranking per recruit.

With him gone and Steele likely headed to USC, Oregon needs to get going on some DB recruits. They need around 6-7 and only have 2 now.

From the little I know, he was the first commitment in the class and may not have been a priority with all the elite guys coming in.

He also received a Texas offer recently and probably will stay in that area of the country

IDK if I'd say that. Caldwell is a baller, and Oregon found him before most schools. He's just starting to get national attention.

Anyway, I'm actually surprised it took him this long to decommit once Texas offered. But props to him for not rushing into a decommitment and taking his time. Honestly, he handled it well. I'm usually bitter about decommits, not as much here. Best of luck to him.

I think 5 is plenty for this class. Only losing McGraw and Ugo.

They'll also be losing Hough, the UNLV grad transfer CB. They likely need 3-4 CBs since they'll only have Graham, Woods, Lenoir, McKinley, and, depending on whether he ends up a S or CB, Hailassie as returning CBs in 2019. I remember Cristobal and/or Leavitt saying they'd like around 8-10 CBs on the roster due to the conference's pass-happy reputation.

Can Hough not get into school? I had heard rumors of that.

Losing Caldwell sucks, because he is an underrated type that we got in on early. But Donte Williams and Keith Heyward are the two best recruiters on the staff, I have the utmost confidence in them getting a good DB class. We're also not doing too bad at the position, let's look at the guys we're expected to have on the roster in 2019:

Safeties: Nick Pickett, Brady Breeze, Steve Stephens, Jevon Holland, Billy Gibson, Jeremiah Criddell.

Corners: Deommo Lenoir, Thomas Graham, Verone McKinley III, Haki Woods, Mykael Wright, Kahlef Hailassie.

Thin at CB and could use more at safety, but it's not doom and gloom. Unfortunate that Jeffery Carter eliminated us, Isaiah Rutherford is another Cali 4-star to keep an eye on. Darien Chase appears to be all Washington, but you never know.

A couple weeks ago we were wondering if we were in it for any WRs now we're beating them back with sticks.

I have no doubt they'll get another CB and another safety

Exactly. I was a loud voice of concern about the lack of WR recruiting. And less than a month later we have two four-stars, a fast rising three-star with size, and are legit contenders for a handful of other four-stars.

This staff is incredible, they're going to get us recruits. I mean we're already sitting prettier than ever at DB; Wright is the highest rated DB recruit we've ever had and Criddell is the third highest. Lenoir is fourth, Graham is fifth, Stephens is seventh. The only guys we've pulled in the past that that stack up are Cliff Harris and Arrion Springs.
