Possessions and Efficiency - Day 30
Hi league,
Hope you find the tables and chart below insightful. Nice to see how teams fare up when it comes to number of possessions per game and offensive and defensive efficiency, or oRTG and dRTG respectively. See how you mount up in regards to the league average and against the competition in your division, conference, and league-wide.
The stats have been compiled from data as of day 30, the quarter-mark.
For those interested in the details, possessions were calculated by using the common formula below:
Possessions = 0.96 * (FGA - oREB + TO + (0.44 * FTA))
oREB is the biggest rough estimate, as FBB does not distinguish between dREB and oREB, and so based on the NBA rate over the last decade or so, the formula used is oREB = 0.35 * Team RPG.
For those not as knowledgeable about dRTG, the lower the better.

To me at first glance, an eye-popping fact is the Heat and how intensely polarizing their offense is in comparison to their defense: 4th in oRTG, 27th in dRTG.

Looks like I should slow my guys down and increase the efficiency.

Good observation. I definitely think it's worth trying.FlDuckFan wrote:Looks like I should slow my guys down and increase the efficiency.
However, there's more to maximizing the offensive potential on a squad than that: do my players take a lot of shots, will my players be able to generate better looks than what they currently get (hypothetically) in such a way where the conversion rate at a slower pace > the conversion rate at a quicker pace, etc...
And then there's the DC by matchup, where the lesser of two evils is to give your opponent less shots at the cost of costing you more shots but where you believe your efficiency > theirs and it'll ultimately be a bigger plus for you than for him = wins.

Up-to-date to day 50 with NetRTG added, in response to Craig.

The Blazers are an offensive powerhouse. Their defense needs help if they want to win it all.
No one is even close to touching the Magic right now. They're definitely the favourites to win it all with a NetRTG of 11.81, tops in the league. Wanted to take a look and see how they did against the Kings (#2) and 76ers (#3), and they haven't played either yet lol. They played the Blazers (#4) once early on in the season and beat them at home by 6.

Still can't believe Immannuel Quickley turning into a beast out of nowhere. Underrated part of ORL success.

What can I say.... sometimes you get lucky. I drafted him and he was supposedly a done prospect with like no pot. His defense was supposed to be good. Now, his defense sucks but he can score and pass. #FBBCraig wrote:Still can't believe Immannuel Quickley turning into a beast out of nowhere. Underrated part of ORL success.

He is perfect for that team too. Third/Fourth best player who gets the ball in the hands of the playmakers but can also be counted on offensively. Very lucky acquisition along with winning the lottery and getting Anthony.pistolpetejr wrote:What can I say.... sometimes you get lucky.
