What does this do for recruiting

Post by gofightingducks »

If Oregon continues to get beatdown what do you think that does for recruiting with some of those top guys. Things were looking good after USC but maybe these guys look at USC's injuries really being the reason and now they are looking at Oregon as not being the contender they though they were. Thoughts

I wouldn't call that being beat down.
I think this game, although it doesn't help recruiting, it probably will not hurt it at all either.
"Huard's gonna go back to throw the ball. Sets up, looks, throws towards the corner of the endzone. It is... INTERCEPTED! INTERCEPTED! THE DUCKS HAVE THE BALL! Down to the 35! The 40! KENNY WHEATON'S GONNA SCORE!!! KENNY WHEATON'S GONNA SCORE!!! 20! THE 10! TOUCHDOWN!!! KENNY WHEATON, AN INTERCEPTION!!! THE MOST IMPROBABLE FINISH TO A FOOTBALL GAME!!!"

If we win out & go to the Rose Bowl, no one will remember this game. It only dashed the slim hopes we had at the NC. Hopes that weren't really realistic. Win the Pac 10 & go to the rose bowl, unseating SC, & you will get plenty of recruits attention.

As nice as it would have been to be competing for a NC game appearance, as long as we make the Rose Bowl, the recruits will still look at us pretty heavily.

Not a beatdown almost a great comeback but I started the thread at halftime when it was looking like a beatdown 31-14.

Then I would say that was way to pre-mature :D We had a chance to come back and if not for some calls we wouldn't have been down so much....Rose bowl it is!!!!!!!!

It was premature and I wasn't worried about the offense I knew they would score but I had no confidence in the D getting enough stops. The point was that a lot of recruits want to play for a team that is a player on the national scene. That is why the Texas, USC, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida's etc. get all of the top talent. Oregon will not be a player until they can handle the hype and win games when the pressure is on. Oregon is great as underdogs with no pressure but when the attention is on them they struggle it seems and my thought was whether or not a recruit might look at them that way. Since they didn't get blown out and like you said if they do win out there shouldn't be much if any fallout, but I just wonder if our progress with the likes of Reed and Seastrunk, etc. will take a hit.

I don't think this one loss does much, but recruits will probably take notice should Oregon fail to make the Rose Bowl.

Agree with you there, a Rose Bowl appearance would be huge.

I might ask what impact California's continued under performance might have on their recruiting and whether that might improve our recruiting chances. Particularly since the faculty board this week slammed the regents for excessive cuts to academic support and excessive sport spending. It is going to get nasty in Berkley over the next few months as budgets are strained.
