I don't know what to say. If Oregon had a reputation or history of being a University of high academics like Stanford, I could understand, but come on Oregon is not a Stanford and never will be, these standards are just costing the football team (which is the University's primary money maker) good players. Stupid decision by some "suit" who must have been beat up by the "jocks" in high school.

haha While it certainly does hurt our program. Maybe we got sick of kids not being able to play and having to babysit these kids through their academic life. Also, we do have some of the lowest grad rates, so we are certainly trying to improve those to avoid a ncaa sanction. In reality, the majority of recruits will not go to the NFL, maybe 3 or 4 every year. These kids need to have an academic background, because they cannot simply ride their college football success, as that does not translate into a real job. While the football program may suffer minor consequences, it does benefit the university and helps our standings with the NCAA

You make some very good points ducksball...I agree education is the most important part of college and it will prepare us for the rest of the world. However, I agree with gofightingducks in the fact that our standards shouldn't be held to that of Stanford or anywhere close for that matter. Which makes me wonder if there is a loophole or a scandal which keeps these kids from qualifying. Some kids can't cut it, I understand that. It just seems that year after year this hits us the worse with examples such as Simi Fili, Myles Wade, and Justin Thompson. Who knows if Crim for sure was ours? We do know we have missed some opportunities in the last few years to pick up some of these prized recruits because of the standards and lack of work in the classroom. Unfortunately, this is the way it will probably continue to be and we need to maybe go after less of these JC kids and maybe focus more on the ones that aren't borderline and take care of the work in the classroom...All this being said, I'm glad to be a duck despite this matter...Go Ducks!

Didn't I see an article a year or so ago about how Oregon, among some other schools, could loose a few schollies if they didn't pick up their grades a bit? Maybe that fact has something to do with it.
