Oregon in Kyle Ford's top 5

Post by greenyellow »

5* WR Kyle Ford has released his top 5 and Oregon made the cut, along with Michigan, Colorado, SC, and UW. At this point, it's probably a 3-way battle between the Ducks, Trojans, and Huskies.

Curious what the coaching change at CU and the potential for an impending change at USC will do with his top 5. I’d assume it knocks CU out and depending on who USC hires, could hinder that quite a bit.

I think that whoever USC has as coach, they'll still be up there for Ford since he supposedly grew up as a USC fan and they're still the local school.

Agree it’s certainly a long shot and chances are, if they do can Helton, when they hire a new coach, there will probably be a renewed optimism which might lead to a bump in recruiting. One can dream though.

Is he an early enrollee? Looks like the early signing period begins December 19th so could play a factor if it takes USC a few weeks to sign a coach and then the staff.

I feel if helton and staff are still at USC, they get many of their top cali recruiting targets. They seem to have a good relationship with Helton. Perhaps USC fires Helton after early signing period and when all of Helton's sure fire recruits have finished signing with them, then they'll bring in a name brand coach to play clean up on the wavering top cali recruits. Seems like something SC could/would do.

From a USC insider, athletes that want to come to USC will come regardless of the coach. I tend to agree with this comment. I am hearing that many believe that Jack Del Rio is a likely replacement for Helton.

If anything, we want USC to keep Helton. A new coach would bring excitement, but lame duck Helton is really not recruiting well.

As for Ford, it's still a long shot. Probably 50% USC, and 25% for us and Washington if even that.

He's an amazing receiver though. This would be a day one starter.

Helton is still in and even if he's fired the coaching search will take some time.

Even Bru McCoy seems to be hedging his bet on USC

IMO the ducks are in a great spot for Ford and I bet it's even right now between UO and USC, with the Huskies a legitimate option. CU and Michigan are not real threats from what I've read

I think Helton staying at USC would benefit the ducks the most from a recruiting standpoint. If they get a new coach, they can sell any vision of USC that they want but with Helton at the helm, recruits see what they would be signing up for and right now it isn't a pretty picture.
