I've fixed it. People have to remember that adding formatting like bold, underline, and italics takes away the clickable link.JIDuck97 wrote:That linky doesnt linky.maxduck wrote:Had to glance at the FSU 247 board. "In his final recruiting class, Mark Helfrich failed to sign a top-45 talent in the state of California. This year, according to ESPN, Oregon has commitments from the state’s top two prospects – Thibodeax and cornerback MyKael Wright – and six of the top 25."Merganzer wrote:https://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/2018/1 ... ntary.html
It’s official: Oregon Ducks are national recruiting power (Commentary)
It couldn’t happen again, could it?
How many times had the Oregon Ducks been just another hat on the table for a five-star prospect?
Window dressing for someone else’s big celebration.
Sure, consensus five-star defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux, ESPN’s No. 1 overall prospect, had called Oregon’s overtime win over then-No. 7 Washington the "best college game (he’d) ever been to” and experts spent weeks saying the 6-foot-5, 234-pound defensive lineman was destined to be a Duck.
But in the final days of his recruitment the all-too-familiar “Alabama is closing hard” stories began and it seemed the… Tide?... had turned for Thibodeaux.
Second place for a five-star prospect yet another? Could it really be?
Oregon fans half-heartedly tuned in to ESPN at halftime of the New Mexico Bowl, hoping against all odds that this time would be different.
“Don’t get your hopes up,” they told themselves. “We’ve been down this road before.”
Except the hat Thibodeaux pulled out of nowhere was green and yellow.
Was it a trick? Would he toss it aside for a crimson Alabama hat?
“No, he put the hat on his head. This is really happening,” Oregon fans must’ve said to themselves, analyzing his commitment like the Zapruder film.
It was real, and suddenly ESPN analysts, who hadn’t even mentioned Oregon as a contender in the initial Thibodeaux commitment tease, were suddenly talking about him conference-altering talent heading to Eugene.
When Oregon beat Washington this season it was the beginning of the Cristobal era in Eugene, but the ramifications of that victory – one that came with Thibodeaux in attendance – weren’t truly felt until Saturday.
The win marked a new era in Oregon football for Cristobal, but Thibodeaux’s commitment Saturday marked a new era in Oregon football recruiting.
Cristobal and his coaching staff have assembled the nation’s No. 3 recruiting class nationally, something Chip Kelly could never do, and Scott Frost seemed to imply was impossible.
In his final recruiting class, Mark Helfrich failed to sign a top-45 talent in the state of California. This year, according to ESPN, Oregon has commitments from the state’s top two prospects – Thibodeax and cornerback MyKael Wright – and six of the top 25.
So, celebrate Thibodeaux’s commitment this weekend Oregon fans – if you’ve followed recruiting very long you’ve been disappointed far too many times not to.
But also remember this: It’s time to adjust your expectations for Oregon on the recruiting trail.
Cristobal is a former national recruiter of the year and he’s made a strong case for his candidacy again in the 2019 recruiting cycle.
For years under Kelly, Oregon was a national power.
On Saturday afternoon at halftime of the New Mexico Bowl Thibodeaux announced to the world on ESPN that Oregon has finally become one on the recruiting trail.
