Taj Griffin now showing in transfer portal

Post by TyranT »

I know his departure took place earlier this year, but for some reason I thought he’d already been picked up by another school. Burmeister, Capra, Hines, Griffin, and R.I.P. Leiato all had scholarships at the start of 2018. Wonder if Oregon will need many more transfers to stay under their limit?

Hines, Griffin, and Leiato were all in or about to enter their SR years so they were already figured into the scholarship numbers. Only Burmeister and Capra actually opened up any space.

Not sure I understand your point. The seniors are still on scholarship, so if they transfer it still opens up a scholarship....right?

The coaches were already counting on them being gone after the season since they were SRs so it's not really an additional scholarship they didn't have planned. Burmeister and Capra can be viewed as additional spots since the the coaches likely didn't know they'd transfer before the season and they would have had spots on next season's team had they opted to return.

It's all about reference point. "Additional" completely depends on when you're comparing the current time to. Might make your convo easier.
