True especially since we recruit a lot of players from the South and East. But once players visit most tend to love it. I think of places like Lincoln, Nebraska and wonder how a player would want to live there for 3-4 years but not like Eugene.duckgrad99 wrote:A lot of it is also the location. Re: Reed might decide Friday
I feel like until we win a couple BCS bowls, we are going to have trouble getting these creme of the crop guys. We will get the 1 or 2 5*s every couple years but won't consistently pull them in. Win a Rose Bowl this year & go BCS next year (Very likely considering all the talent & experience we return) and all that changes. Until we prove we can consistently play with the big boys, we won't consitently get the big boys.
And really, I love how recruitings been going since Chip got here. We load up on the 4*s & I'm completely satisfied with that. But add a consistent coupe of 1-2 5*s a year, over 4-5 years & we take a pretty big step up in talent.

Re: Reed might decide Friday
not to mention, we've had our way within the juco ranks of late too.
also, look at the past recruits we have waiting to play in the next year or two. mostly 3, some 4 star recruits that we are drooling over. no doubt we can compete at a high level with these players in this system. we'll be fine.
sometimes i think recruits read our boards and think wow, i'll never see the field there. they are stacked.
rb-2 frosh we are in love with
qb- 2 juniors and a redshirting soph we are in love with, and a frosh that is making noise.
wr- currently stacked top to bottom. and imagine if the dude who didnt qualify gets in after juco (jefferson?)
te-... can you believe the transfer from georgia hasn't seen the field?
db-studded out and young. so much so that barner is playing rb.
lb- same
if only our dt's could qualify.

the problem im seeing from all the recruits we're after is that they're waiting to hear from cal usc ucla etc etc. we're a a cool and fun fall back option and they guys like to come see the facilities but in the end we're on the outside looking in.

Best of luck to Reed, definitely must be tough without his mother.
Anyway, I think Ducks should start avoiding areas in SEC area. We've had easily the worst luck vs SEC teams in recruiting.
With non local recruiting, I say stick to Texas and the far east.
Stay out of these states for 4 and 5 star recruits (except Florida because Florida can't get all the 4/5 stars):

My brother in law was born in South Africa, grew up in Switzerland and went to University of Florida on a tennis scholly (mid 90's)... before he came out here to live with my sister he didnt really know there was a difference between us and osu. He followed football too... the pac 10 just isnt available to viewers in the south. Point is, a well educated football fan from a big time SEC school didnt even know the difference between us and osu.... we should consider ourselves lucky to have come this far...gofightingducks wrote:True especially since we recruit a lot of players from the South and East. I bet a very small % of top recruits across the nation couldn't locate Oregon on a map let alone Eugene... oh well...

I have to disagree. If a 4 or 5 star guy from out there shows interest, we should definetly recruit them. Doesn't hurt. If we just stayed away, we wouldn't have pulled the guys from Texas or Florida that we are getting.UOducksTK1 wrote:Best of luck to Reed, definitely must be tough without his mother.

Re: Reed might decide Friday
I gotta disagree with that. We've had success in Florida, Texas, and on some parts of the east coast. I say continue working the areas that you got going. I'm not saying to completely stop recruiting in SEC territory, but I'd love it if we focused more on the west coast or non SEC areas. I mean, let's get real, how often do we beat out a SEC team for a recruit?sickaduck wrote:I have to disagree. If a 4 or 5 star guy from out there shows interest, we should definetly recruit them. Stay out of these states for 4 and 5 star recruits (except Florida because Florida can't get all the 4/5 stars):
4/5 stars within the last 2 years:
Aaron Boyd - Kentucky over Oregon
Bryce Brown - Tennessee over Oregon and Clemson
Craig Loston - LSU over Oregon
Anthony Leon - Arkansas over Oregon (although he may have been UO had it not been for grade issues)
Enrique Davis - Mississippi over FSU and Oregon
Miami: Streeter, Harris, Telemaque, and others
And these aren't just recruits that had Oregon and an SEC team on their list. These were players serious about Oregon and even visited. There's also like 20 other players within the last 2 years that had Oregon offered or on their list that committed to an SEC team. I think when you look at it, we never (except in some very rare cases) beat out SEC teams or Miami for 4/5 star recruits.

Ya the list u put down, IMO is 3 of them is all DUCKS if it wasnt for parents. Boyd and Streeter would be huge get for our WR depth.UOducksTK1 wrote:I gotta disagree with that. I think Florida is the only exception because there's an unbelievable amount of talent in Florida. Florida and Miami sometimes don't even have enough scholarship offers to land all the 4s and 5s in Florida.
And if you look at the guys we did get from Floridaa..
Grant didn't have an offer from any SEC team except Mississippi state. Had a Florida or something come in and offered him, I wouldn't be holding my breathe.
Same with Dixon, his only SEC offer was from Mississippi. Not much love from in state.
And for the record, both guys are rated as 3 star recruits by scout.
