I'm surprised that we haven't made a bigger splash in Texas than we have. Right now, we only have Thomas, James, and Cantu from Texas. There's got to be some talent in that state that isn't going to one of the big-time Big 12 schools that wants to maybe come out west. I agree with UOducksTK1 in that we should only go recruiting in Florida and SEC country if there a very reasonable shot at getting them.UOducksTK1 wrote:Well I did say..chump01284 wrote:well, UODUCKStk1 we are doing pretty well in FLA, Grant and Dixon.

I think Florida is the only exception because there's an unbelievable amount of talent in Florida. Florida and Miami sometimes don't even have enough scholarship offers to land all the 4s and 5s in Florida.
And if you look at the guys we did get from Floridaa..
Grant didn't have an offer from any SEC team except Mississippi state. Had a Florida or something come in and offered him, I wouldn't be holding my breathe.
Same with Dixon, his only SEC offer was from Mississippi. Not much love from in state.
And for the record, both guys are rated as 3 star recruits by scout.

I think we need to start with the lower tier of SEC area recruits and then work our way up (Kinda like what we are doing in Florida right NOW). Go after the underrated 3 star recruits and maybe some lower 4 star recruits. To me, the only big time recruits we should be showing love are the ones that are really interested in Oregon. Demarcus Smith, the 2011 kentucky QB, is the first that comes to mind.greenyellow wrote:I'm surprised that we haven't made a bigger splash in Texas than we have. But I agree, I'd love to see us get going at Texas. Imagine in a couple years with Thomas and LMJ running the show? Haha, an entire Texas backfield.

my bad, i didnt read it all on your post. We would be lucky to get 1 or 2 4/5 stars sec players as left over if sec schools dont need them. Also i agreed with you, go after texas players hard. They have real talents like LMJ, Thomas and others in Ducks team.

No worries, anyways coaches know what they are doing, which is pretty evident considering the position we are currently in. Win out and we are Rose Bowl bound and Pac X champs. You don't need the 5 stars to win games, but it sure as hell helps lol.chump01284 wrote:greenyellow wrote:I'm surprised that we haven't made a bigger splash in Texas than we have. We will get the 1 or 2 5*s every couple years but won't consistently pull them in. Win a Rose Bowl this year & go BCS next year (Very likely considering all the talent & experience we return) and all that changes. Until we prove we can consistently play with the big boys, we won't consitently get the big boys.
And really, I love how recruitings been going & I'm completely satisfied with that. But add a consistent coupe of 1-2 5*s a year, over 4-5 years & we take a pretty big step up in talent.
8 out of the ten commits so far are 3 stars per Scout

Chip has been here 3 years. Look at our last 3 classes. Almost half are 4*s.sx1080 wrote:dthomas=ddixon wrote:Umm ok... not sure what that has to do with my post.sx1080 wrote:8 out of the ten commits so far are 3 stars per Scout

And as far as I see, this years class has four 4*s: http://oregon.rivals.com/commitlist.asp?school=59
Scout is worthless.

Well, Give Chip Kelly few more years to recruits players that fit in his offense style. You will see totally different team compare to his 3 years in Oregon. Then we can compare which is better, Chip's era or Belloti's era

My two bits worth is to say that it takes time, program exposure and success on the field to get the attention. Five years ago it would be pretty rare to get that attention from a player down there. Also we want kids who are academically successful and will fit into the culture successfully, not some of the high ranked players who are border line morons and trouble makers. Kiffen can have those.
We are catching notice of a number of the Southeastern kids, but its better to have players which are enthused about the prospect of regional, cultural and climatic change then someone who becomes disgruntle over the choice over time. Right now we may wing and miss out, but being in the discussion will sooner or later put the Ducks in a position where a quality player and person will jump at the opportunity.

Why is the idea that recruiting is something we have a pool of minutes for like we're placing NCAA 10 or something? There's not minutes to spend in various recruiting areas that we could "focus" more on other places. 90% of recruiting is mailing stuff to players by an intern.UOducksTK1 wrote:I gotta disagree with that. We've had success in Florida, Texas, and on some parts of the east coast. I say continue working the areas that you got going. I'm not saying to completely stop recruiting in SEC territory, but I'd love it if we focused more on the west coast or non SEC areas. I mean, let's get real, how often do we beat out a SEC team for a recruit?sickaduck wrote:I have to disagree. If a 4 or 5 star guy from out there shows interest, we should definetly recruit them. Doesn't hurt. If we just stayed away, we wouldn't have pulled the guys from Texas or Florida that we are getting.UOducksTK1 wrote:Best of luck to Reed, definitely must be tough without his mother.
Anyway, I think Ducks should start avoiding areas in SEC area. We've had easily the worst luck vs SEC teams in recruiting.
With non local recruiting, I say stick to Texas and the far east.
Stay out of these states for 4 and 5 star recruits (except Florida because Florida can't get all the 4/5 stars):
4/5 stars within the last 2 years:
Aaron Boyd - Kentucky over Oregon
Bryce Brown - Tennessee over Oregon and Clemson
Craig Loston - LSU over Oregon
Anthony Leon - Arkansas over Oregon (although he may have been UO had it not been for grade issues)
Enrique Davis - Mississippi over FSU and Oregon
Miami: Streeter, Harris, Telemaque, and others
And these aren't just recruits that had Oregon and an SEC team on their list. These were players serious about Oregon and even visited. There's also like 20 other players within the last 2 years that had Oregon offered or on their list that committed to an SEC team. I think when you look at it, we never (except in some very rare cases) beat out SEC teams or Miami for 4/5 star recruits.

Re: Reed might decide Friday
It's not like everyone is thinking that recruiting is like NCAA Football 10 and they're limited in the amount of minutes they have. It's just that we sort of know where Oregon can get the bulk of their recruits and that the coaches should focus there, while going after a couple of recruits that aren't in their typical recruiting areas. For all of the national recruiting the Ducks do back east, they will still get majority of the recruits from the West Coast area (WA, OR, CA, AZ, HI) with the occasional national recruit.
