Reading his 247 profile made me laugh. They have him at 15 in the country but in their blurb they say his upside is that of a 2nd rounder. If he's top 15 as a TE, don't you think that means he has the upside of a 1st rounder? Or is the assumption that he won't get better relative to his peers? If so, why would that be? Or it just doesn't make sense.

I suspect it's because the author doesn't feel that TEs get the same NFL draft love as other positions get.AshlandDuck wrote:Reading his 247 profile made me laugh. Then why rank him as #15 now?UofDuck wrote:I suspect it's because the author doesn't feel that TEs get the same NFL draft love as other positions get.AshlandDuck wrote:Reading his 247 profile made me laugh. TE could have more value in college football than NFL.StevensTechU wrote:Then why rank him as #15 now?UofDuck wrote:I suspect it's because the author doesn't feel that TEs get the same NFL draft love as other positions get.AshlandDuck wrote:Reading his 247 profile made me laugh. Dang, this is one great athlete at TE or DE at almost 6'8". Would be a class headliner type.

Well that's just not true. Aside from Jace Amaro and Iowa, tight ends are a lost art in college football and have much, much more value in the NFL.UOducksTK1 wrote:TE could have more value in college football than NFL.StevensTechU wrote:Then why rank him as #15 now?UofDuck wrote:I suspect it's because the author doesn't feel that TEs get the same NFL draft love as other positions get.AshlandDuck wrote:Reading his 247 profile made me laugh. That logic is broken.

Dude's value could also be at defense or WR?

Ranking college talent does not always translate to NFL draft picks, e.g Heisman winners are not NFL locks.StevensTechU wrote:Then why rank him as #15 now?UofDuck wrote:I suspect it's because the author doesn't feel that TEs get the same NFL draft love as other positions get.AshlandDuck wrote:Reading his 247 profile made me laugh. I understand that. In this scenario they assume his peers will improve relative to him. I don't understand why. TEs do get drafted in the first round and if he's top 15 now, what makes them think he will drop in relative value? He's 6'7" 250 right now which is prototype NFL TE size. They have his 40 at 4.78. If he gets that to 4.7 or 4.6 that is a number that could still get him drafted in the 1st round. Honestly, I think this is just a disconnect between those rating him and those offering their future draft prognostications. For some reason they assume a prototype NFL prospect will get worse than his peers - which isn't really a fair assumption IMO. None of it really matters, I just question the value of such coverage.
