Hey guys, I am the 15th to post here and so far the first to welcome this guy... Help me out, please! Save the negative bantering for other teams. This guy has gotta be good if the coaches offered.

Thanks for posting TK and welcome aboard Brandon!

Paulson actually has a lot of experience, he also has the best hands on team. He's a big reason why Dickson plays in the slot most of the time.

With our talent and depth at TE it does seem odd to bring in a JC guy at that position. I wonder if they want to play him at WR?

I wasn't being negative. Like Boom said, I'm just a little puzzled at why we'd bring in a JC guy at a position we are loaded at. By looking at his stats he looks like a pretty good player. Just a little odd is all.

Definitely a surprise. Williams sounds like he's got the talent to play in the Pac-10, but a JC TE didn't seem like a need.

OH well though, makes me thing White will be moved to DE.

The Ducks aren't exceptionally deep at tight end. After Dickson graduates there will be 3 scholarship tight ends left from the current roster. That may seem like a lot, but it isn't. Most teams want at least 5 scholarship tight ends on the roster at any given time.

The fact that he is from a jc and isn't local makes me think that the coaches really scouted this kid and liked what they saw. I'm guessing he will be a 3 or 4 star when the rankings come out.

The coaches have built us into a program that's consistently in the top 25, in part because of their ability to recruit. You're some guy on an internet message board. Maybe you should trust them and not think you know a kid is bad because you've never heard of them.
so agreed. come on folks, you didn't even know this kid walked the planet 2 hours ago and now all of a sudden some of you are wondering if this is a wise scholie. really? can't some of you just wait until there's an article written up?
So unless C4Q knows about a guy, he's not worth a scholarship... It's not like we've EVER given schollies to unknown guys and haven't had it pan out. Chung and Unger weren't real. We just made them up to feel good about our coaches knowing less about scouting than hines.

Welcome Brandon Williams!

Further proof that Malachi Lewis will never see significant playing time for the Ducks IMO

C'mon... 6'4/240? That's a nice start, IMO.

Hey, cool another commit! Welcome Brandon! :D

I'm just curious about the timing of this...Do we know how long the offer has been on the table? It seems too soon for Christian Thomas to say he's not interested. He was probably still on the campus only a few hours ago, and a player we haven't even heard of out of the blue commits? Strange.

Not sure how plausible this is, but perhaps the coaches see enough potential out of this 2 year player in Williams and tell the kid "We're only taking two TE's for 2010. You have the offer but you better make a decision quick. We have other players interested." Brandon looks on Rivials or Scout or something and sees Christian Thomas is visiting this week and notices Curtis White has already committed. Bam! Decides to make the commitment before Thomas can. The thing is that White might be heading to D-line leaving room for a low-risk, high-reward JC TE, and a long term stud in Thomas (I hope at least!) :D

note. The other teams with high interest from Thomas are USC, who already has 2 stud TE's committed from this cycle, UCLA, which I believe has darn good TE depth right now, and Washington, which is similar to UCLA in that they have promising players at TE. That leaves Oregon in good shape because our all-time best pass catching TE is heading to the NFL. Definatly a spot open at Oregon, not so much on USC, UCLA, and Washington. ;) I hope I interpreted this correctly. Would be pretty killer to snag Thomas and this stud JC player.
Stewart Mandel-"From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I much prefer to watch a good spread-rushing offense over a traditional Power-I offense, and Oregon's has been the most fun by far for the past several years. It's fast, its precise, and when Chip Kelly has the right quarterback (Dixon, Masoli) at the helm, the possibility of someone ripping off a 60-yard run exists on nearly every play."

I say that the coaches may look into possibly signing 3 TEs since the depth really isn't there. They could use Williams right away since JC players tend to be more ready than FR and then get 2 HS TE. They could then decide to redshirt 1, redshirt both, or possibly move one to another position.

Brandon Williams receives NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week

"The NJCAA has selected Brandon Williams as the Offensive Player of the Week. The 6'4", 240 lb. Williams had three touchdowns in last week's game against Ellsworth Community College. He had a total of 254 yards; his longest run was an 80-yard score 1:22 into the first quarter. "Brandon has shown great leadership this year and has shown other players to let their place speak for themselves," Head Coach Jeremy Richardson said."
