He will have to appeal for immediate eligibility. Most are of the opinion that eligibility will be granted due to the nature of his departure. He did the right thing and should not be punished for doing so.

If you have a dying mother you have to sit out for a year.
I really am not expecting Steele to be eligible this year for us.

He will have to appeal to the NCAA, but the assumptions are he will get the waiver and play right away. He actually has a legitimate reason.alxtw wrote:Will he be eligible to play next season or will he need to sit out a season?

All he has to do is hire the lawyer Tathan did.

He might have a good reason, but this is the NCAA who does not want to tarnish the SEC, so since he is leaving a SEC school he will probably be punished for that decision. Good or bad does not matter. There are certain schools that can get away with just about anything. Those caught in the wake, if leave are punished for bringing a negative light to that school.

The ncaa is more worried about PR than actual situations. This, similarly to Justin fields would be bad PR, especially with current social climate. I’d be shocked if it wasn’t decided quickly that he can play next year.

No. He still counts towards Florida's numbers for 2019.

The CONVENTIONAL wisdom among some well placed sources is that he will be eligible this year. The consensus seems to be that the NCAA would look really bad (how much worse can they look?????) given today's social climate to decline this request. Again this is the same organization that merely slapped UNC's hands for academic fraud but won't let a kid whose mother is severely ill play close to home.

FYI Steele did an interview with JHOP just a few days ago. Steele has officially signed and said literally everyone was after him: LSU, Bama, Clemson, Georgia, USC etc. but that he knew he was going to Oregon from the start. He will be on campus in mid June.

I’m as concerned as everyone else about our offense going forward, but we are building toward a defense that is as program defining as the offenses of days past.
Think back 10-15 years. Alabama was becoming elite on a great defense and it took several years for the offense to catch up.
Our D could allow Cristobal the time to find his guy on offense if Arroyo can’t make it happen this season.

I totally agree, while Oregon has struggled on offense they will need a pulse. Yes those Bama teams that won the natty had an offense that was quite a few steps behind their defense but they at least had a pulse on offense, and could occasionally move the ball to give the defense a rest and put up some points while they were at it. You will occasionally see teams that have great defense, one of the best in the nation, but their offense is garbage and probably doesn't even score as much as the defense does and the team as a result is mediocre. With the defense Oregon is building, all we can hope is the offense at least has a pulse, and based off what I've seen last season, I believe that'll be the case for Oregon in the next couple of years. Loving the way this defense is headed!whosyourwally wrote:I’m as concerned as everyone else about our offense going forward, but we are building toward a defense that is as program defining as the offenses of days past.

I don’t fully understand why they changed the offense from the Chip and Helf (more so the latter, which was designed to protect the QB a little more) at all. Do the current coaches just not conceptually understand it well enough to teach it? Because there is no argument that it was more effective.

Maybe because most everyone has figured out how to defend against it??? Note that is a question.
Also if you watched UCLA at all last year you probably noticed Chip has we even modified his offense. Admittedly he did not have a ton of talent or speed.

Look at Alabama Saban railed against the spread. Said it was dangerous. However he
changed his defense to stop the spread. He also changed his offense some with spread
concepts. Teams around the country have done the same. Not sure what Oregon is doing
is the answer. Guess we will find out.
