From 11/6/09 so its fairly recent. Farrell thinks Gabe King & Owa come down to Oregon & Cal as their finalists with Gabe going to Cal & Owa coming here. Tyler Stephenson, Baylor commit, is leaning towards the Ducks. Also says that Keenan Allen loves the Ducks but family members are pushing him to go to Bama... we know how that turned out.
That's really encouraging to here about Owa... Gawd I would so love for us to get him.

any idea why?
The coaching staff probably promised them something to get Keenan down there. I don't trust any of the SEC schools when they say they do clean recruiting. We all know that's not true.
First of all, you're right not trust SEC schools, or at least Bama. That being said, that's not why they're pushing him there. I think they think of Bama as a more prestigious school and more likely to get him in the NFL (yes, I realize Oregon is great about putting DB's in the league, but not everyone in the country knows that). On top of that, Allen's brother had some negative experience with the U of O. Not really sure on the specifics of it.
I really think that King and Owa are top talent in the country, but if I had to choose between the tow of them, there is no doubt in my mind that it would be Owa. He is a dominating force against everyone he plays against. Yes, it's against Oregon competition, but I saw his highlights against army all-Americans and he was completely dominating in the 1 on 1's. It was ridiculous. He was running through through them, around them, and all of that with great footwork. He is a beast.

It's sad and it sucks, but think of how many people are family first.
Just keep winning and a few years from now, it won't be an issue!
I just hope the coaches are learning and improving from every "family no". Surely each is at least a little bit different, and yet, undoubtedly, each one have similar issues. Just like I hope our beloved Duckes are continuing to get better everyday, I hope our coaches are continuing to improve their recruiting, especially with big time, non west coast kids.

If you look at it, we already are. We have two commits from Florida(Both had parents wanting them to be Ducks), two more from NC & another from Texas in this class alone. Then go to next years class where DeMarcus Smith, 4* QB from Kentucky, says he will commit the second the Ducks offer & also said his mom told him he better commit as soon as we offer. There's definitely an increasing trend of us breaking through with parents.
And it looks like next year is as loaded at the top as the state of Oregon has been for recruits in a while. Has Oregon always had a couple of studs that are easily national recruits or has it just been the last couple of years? I haven't followed recruiting that long but names like Ethan Johnson, Miles Wade and now Owa come to mind. Locking in the top home state talent could be huge for us.

I don't know how many of you out there are parents, but if one of my sons had been a top recruit I like to think they would have at least considered my (and their mothers) opinions. That's part of being a parent. And a parents desire to see their son play close enough to home is perfectly reasonable.
I also like to think that I would have weighed all the factors, and if another school farther away was a better fit, been supportive of that decision. I just think that those on this board that throw parents under the bus- without knowing them- simply because they dissuaded their child from going to Oregon probably are not parents themselves.
