Top Oregon Players Playing Elsewhere

Post by StevensTechU »

Watching games and reading recaps, I've been seeing a good number of Oregon high school players making their mark outside of the state at the college level. Below is a list of players that I'm aware of, along with a brief note on the impact their having with their respective teams.

Daniel Green - LB - Kansas State: backup this year, but has registered 2 pass breakups, 4 solo tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble
Jason Kirkland - OL - washington: starter for the fuskies
Elijah Molden - CB - washington: another fusky starter
Jared Hilbers - OL - washington: yep, three fusky starters, including two big fellas
Talanoa Hufanga - S - USC: of all the "expats," maybe the one I most wish had stayed home. Starter for the Trojans who could lead the team in tackles.
Osa Odighizuwa - DT - UCLA: multi year starter for the bruins and one of the better DTs in the conference
Chase Cota - WR - UCLA: after getting game action 6 times in his freshman year, Cota only has two catches through two games as a sophomore
Cameron Scarlett - RB - Stanford: a guy Oregon turned down, Scarlett starts at RB on a Cardinal team that is struggling to run the ball in part because Scarlett may not be as talented as his predecessors
Demetrius Douglas - WR/PR - Minnesota: Douglas has had a solid career with the gophers after spurning his commitment to play DB for the ducks
Makai Manuwai - DL - Hawai'i: had a handful of stops against the beavers as a Hawai'i starter
John Bates - TE - Boise State: a one-time Ducks target under Helf*, Bates has emerged as a top TE in the MWC

Others?

I thought of Marlon just as I was about to push submit, but stopped short. Is he starting or registering any stats?

Lenzy isn't doing anything notable at this point at Notre Dame that I'm aware of. Mostly riding the pine as a WR (possibly because his better position would've been CB).

Stats show Marlon Tuipulotu starting and ranked 4th at USC with 9 tackles. His backup is Brandon Pili, another Oregonian.

Yeah, all of those players would be nice, but I'm still here trying to figure out what happened with Troy Polamalu.

He wasn't originally from Oregon (only moved to Tenmile to live with his aunt and uncle after he visited during a couple summers) and I believe he had an uncle that had connections within the USC football program.

Went to the Barlow game at home against Tigard tonight. Young Lenzy was all over the field.
