Pac-12 has six teams in top 25

Post by Greenblood »

10. Utah
16. Oregon
19. WSU
22. UW
23. Cal
24. ASU

Guess the last time the conference had six teams in the top 25 was in Nov. 2015.

Lots of parity in the pac this year. I think folks nationally tend to only care if you have a playoff contender as a conference. ACC is a joke, but has Clemson to hang their hat on. Big10 has the likes of: Indiana, Rutgers, Illinois, Purdue, Maryland etc but has Ohio state to buoy them.

Yeah. And I think the odds are that probably any of the currently ranked Pac-12 teams would, if it were to win out the rest of the way (always keeping in mind that that would include the CCG), probably make it to the final four. Unbeaten Utah easily since they're already at #10 in the AP poll, but I don't think any unbeaten Pac-12 team (which at this point could hypothetically also be WSU, Cal or ASU) could be kept out of a place in the final four by the time December rolls around. And I think even the two current 1-loss teams (UW and the Ducks) have at least a 2 out of 3 chance of getting into the final four should either win out the rest of the way, especially if Cal or Auburn, respectively, do pretty well the rest of the season.

I'm just having fun with hypotheticals, of course. The odds that any of the conference teams win out the rest of the way I'd say are pretty small. Just looking at the Utes, they'll be playing at USC Friday night, host WSU the following week and have to go to Seattle in early November.

Watching Auburn play since the Oregon game, they look like they're going to end up middling in the SEC West (Ole Miss and Arkansas are easy wins/trash teams, but I could definitely see Auburn go 1-4 against Alabama, LSU, Miss St, A&M, and Georgia). In other words, I don't think the Auburn loss is going to age well, and assuming Oregon stays toward the top of the conference, it'll make the Pac-12 look bad indirectly.

Yeah, I think Auburn ends up 8-4 with a very average offense.

IF, big if, we were to win the next 6-7 games while Auburn continually falls back, I think the narrative may be that Oregon did outplay them and was missing a large chunk of our receiving corp.

I'm personally not worried about narratives, but I think most of the national media watched the game and actually came away impressed with Oregon in spite of the loss.

Just watching Oregon in the first half against Auburn was enough to know Auburn isn’t a great team. Oregon was manhandling them and if it wasn’t for self-inflicted wounds would have been up huge at halftime. Even an average team will come back if you don’t show up for the second half.
