QUACK! 2021 OL Jackson Light commits

Post by greenyellow »

Oregon has gotten a commitment from 3* OL Jackson Light, the #6 center in the nation. He's now the 3rd commit in the 2021 class, joining DB Anthony Beavers and RB Seven McGee.

Assuming a two year mission won't he and Logan Sagalopu be in the same class?

Haven't watched a lot of his film, but feeling kinda meh on this initially. I'll watch more and get a better sense, but just doesn't show a ton of athleticism or strength, necessarily.

I am also curious if it is confirmed he is going on a mission or if he is even a Mormon. Although with him living in Utah the odds are he is without knowing for sure. Having offers for all three in State schools means nothing. Like another not sure what to think of this recruit but in Cristobal I trust. Lol

Poor wording on my original question. Sagalopu has started his mission, which I assume is two years, and should enter school in 2021. Wouldn't that be the same year Jackson Light would enroll under normal circumstances?

No guarantee that Sagopolu comes back, but yeah we’d have two freshmen centers at the same time. Light said he’s enrolling early, so it looks like no mission for him.

Thanks, Jimmy! I’m always cautious on the mission kids because a lot can change by that time - from both sides. When you do get one back, you’re getting a guy that’s two years into adulthood. When BYU was actually good they were able to trot out an OL of 25 year old guys.

Exactly--- read the book Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. It has a part about advantage of birthdate during development years. The earlier your birthdate, the more developed you are for sports where kids are still developing. Logan should come back and be a Freshman and be the size of a Junior . (which won't matter a ton). It will, however, matter more when he's a senior and 23-24 and fully developed.

That was for Canadian Youth Hockey. Malcolm Gladwell is the most overrated author of our time.

LOL!

I can't remember which BYU alum was saying it (I think I saw it on TV) but he was downplaying the "BYU advantage". He said if going to a third world country and not training for two years gave you an advantage Nick Saban would be sending every single player to El Salvador.

He's not overrated, he's widely known as a charlatan. But on this point, he was just pointing the obvious. Being older helps in youth sports. Of course it does. Not only is that common sense, and it's also been replicated a bunch of times. Gladwell popularized the hockey study, but it's been found in baseball, softball, tennis, basically every sport they've looked into. Here's a study if you're interested.
