I don't talk much, but remember this: Oregon State is not the only college that has done "more with less."

The Ducks wouldn't be where they are today without years of doing more with less. I'd like to think that Bellotti saw in Chip the ability to see this kind of raw talent, the kind that can be coached up to perform above expectations.

If the Oregon coaches want this kid in a year with limited scholarships, then I don't think that means our recruiting class is losing steam. Rather, I believe this means we've found a diamond in the rough who is too good to pass up.

I have to trust the coaches in their decisions. If Costa hadn't been so clutch on Saturday, we all may be looking at this in a different light. If each scholarship player (assuming we used one here) could win us one game, isn't that worth it? Lets hope this is a great get.

Mark Sunga was kicked out of school and then the one we had last year flunked out so we have bad luck with them. I say we need to stop recruiting them for scholarship positions and just give them to walk-ons.
yea but he still did bad last season. In my opinion Coaches wasted schollie on him instead of getting other players (forgot who but i wish we had them instead)

This really is stupid. Clay is doing great as the snapper this year, and he just happens to be a linebacker, the deepest position on the team. I really hope they greyshirt his kid, cause if we lose out on a Mathis, or Uko, or Lattimore because they are told there might not be a scholarship for them...I'll be pissed.

There are some things that we can second guess the coaches on....but recruiting is not one of them. A lot of kids that we give schollies to don't make it in school or transfer out. Should we not have recruited Chris harper or Charles neal? Was Jordan Carey's schollie wasted? I didn't hear anyone complaining at the time. There are going to be hits and misses with recruits, but there is no one on this board that knows more than the coaches when it comes to what it takes to earn a Duck schollie.

If this truiy is a commit, welcome to the Duck family!

and just to add...

There is absolutely no way that we miss out on a 4 or 5 star guy because we offered a long snapper, that is just plain wrong.

I'm 100% sure Chip is smarter than me, so I'll trust the coaches. Welcome to the family Drew!

I agree, Chip is the man and I welcome the new dude.

Anyone know if he plays another position as well?

(1) Chip has shown to have an eye for talent. I trust him.
(2) Long-snapping, along with punting and place kicking, can absolutely win or lose football games.
(3) We dont know yet whether he will be on scholarship.
(4) Even if he is on scholarship, I am sure we will still "find room" for all of those 4 and 5 star players that we all love.

1st thought BLAH!

2nd thought he is a big kid, I wonder if it is possible he could end up being a center? Or playing somewhere on the o-line with the right coaching and nutrition? I mean chip obviously see's something in him.

We can list dozens of recruits that didn't work out, just as we can list dozens that wildly exceeded expectations. Remember, a little over two years ago nobody cared about that Masoli kid who showed up in fall camp. After all, we had a bowl winning QB, a natural spread QB returning from a knee injury, and a couple highly rated preps. Why "waste" a scholie on a JC that will only be 5th string?

If the coaches like him I'm happy he chose Oregon.

Those were only people who were ill-informed. Masoli had 4 to play 3, had offers from Auburn, Arkansas, Zona and us. On top of that he was a five star on scout. He obviously had talent.

The Scout profiles I find list him either as an unranked one star or a three star. Not sure I have ever seen him rated higher by a recruiting site.

And it's REALLY not that hard a position to learn. Unless he can do something else, I don't see how this pans out, even in a best-case scenario.

I agree 100%. Long snapping has been pretty much perfect this season. Last season, with the Zach Taylor(scholarship), we saw the worst long-snapping in all the seasons I've watched Duck football. I really thought the coaches might've learned a lesson or two, especially with how smoothly things have gone this season and any other season.
