Don Johnson Jr hired as director of recruiting

Don Johnson Jr, who was the head coach at Jefferson High and Madison has been hired in a recruiting and HS relations role. The one Ryan Bartow had previously.

MJ Cunningham played for Johnson, as did Daniel Green who had a pretty good freshman year at K-State.

With the new NCAA rule about hiring coaches it means, in principle, that we won’t be able to recruit Jefferson 4-star RB Damir Collins or the other kid they have that’s a basketball commit to Wazzu but just got a Miami football offer. The NCAA rule is in place to keep schools from hiring the coach of a big time recruit as extra incentive. We probably weren’t going to pursue Collins very hard with Seven McGee on board, but worthy noting.

Johnson is a popular guy in PNW football and the kids he coaches love him. There have been some rumors of him being a bit shady, but this is recruiting and it’s not the cleanest business.
