I would rather keep a scholarship open for a juco plug-and-play defensive lineman than take a flier on Jones.

I've said before that Wideman and Abrams-Drain would both be alley pop dunks by the ducks. I also like the offer to the tall WR out of Alabama they recently made.

We don't need a plug and play JUCO DL this year. When was the last one who made a big impact?

The only one I can think of in the last decade was Will Tukuafu. The rest were all depth guys.

Picking up depth is the point.

Tui Talia (RIP) was definitely a contributor.

But there’s nothing wrong with depth guys at the DL spots. Rotations, injuries, and how long it takes most underclassmen to get physically developed enough to be a force are all factors.

I don't understand the hesitation here with Jones. The kid is massive and carries his weight really well. He doesn't have great burst off the line, but his agility is great for his size.

Will he contribute right away? Not a chance. But his potential is higher than any DL we've signed the last two cycles outside of Kayvon.

A year or two under Feld and Joe to improve that burst and learn some actual technique and he could be great.

Dorlus was definitely the surprise of the 3-stars this class. Looks like a 4 year contributor and 2 year starter.

Jamal Hill and DJ James also outplayed their rankings. Maybe taking these 3-stars from the South in the 500-900 range is worth it.

I was just trying to answer their question, not trying to say we shouldn't take a JUCO player for depth. Tukuafu was the only somewhat recent JUCO DL that I can remember being an all conference type player, which was why I threw that out there.

Tui Talia RIP. I remember thinking he was gonna be a superstar when we got him. Was one of my all-time favorite commits. But he only started about half of his senior year, after Armstead declared early. What could have been...another guy whose life was taken too soon.
