However, if he were to seek a waiver from the NCAA he would be unlikely to be granted immediate eligibility, as head coach Mario Cristobal and defensive coordinator Andy Avalos remain in place.

Hill, who signed a binding National Letter of Intent, could not be reached for comment on his status.

Regardless of his decision, it appears Oregon’s three headliners - Manning and five-star linebackers Noah Sewell (early enrollee, on campus) and Justin Flowe - are solidly set on a future in Eugene.

Honestly, relationships are important and we can't fault a kid who hasn't even stepped on campus and played any sort of ball to look at other options if the person he bonded with leaves. It will be hard for him to get out of his LOI but it isn't unheard of for people to let students leave in these types of cases. I hope he sticks it out and gives UO and MC a chance.

Hate to be that guy, but even though people loooove to sh*t on Mark Helfrich's approach of vetting kids backgrounds, I don't recall any of his recruits doing hard time before they even got on campus. Cristobal is looking at 2 now.

I'm not super anti-Helfrich, but while guys may not have done hard time before campus, are the Darrian Franklin, Tristen Wallace, Eddie Heard situations really much better? Is it better to have it happen on campus, as opposed to off campus? While, they didn't go to jail, I'd argue all of them deserved to be in jail. If anything, I think the fact that Cristobal got rid of the problem the second he it cropped out speaks volumes. To be clear, all of these situations are terrible, so I'm not saying one is better than the other. My argument is more that the Helfrich vetting process also didn't eliminate terrible kids from attending the school. You can't be with these kids 24/7 and know everything that's going on in their lives. I'm sure they do the best job they can to identify the bad eggs ahead of time.

Droop10 - It's apples to oranges to compare those things at this juncture. We haven't seen what kinds of things Cristobal's recruits do or don't do while on campus at UofO yet. I would imagine that if there are some guys who have such egregious offenses before they get on campus, there are probably others who are in the Franklin/Wallace/Heard situation and we'll find out about them sometime after they've arrived on campus. Since only one of his classes has actually shown up in Eugene so far, we don't know, and my previous comment is purely a guess at this point. At first glance, though, it seems like the vetting didn't hurt.

I've read on other boards that perhaps Donte Williams was a bit lax on vetting recruits. Don't know if that is true but obviously Hill has behavior issues and Elijah Blades had a problem with academics.
