How many of these key recruits will we snag? I would be thrilled if we can get at least 6. Call me greedy.

It's unlikely we get/keep all the WR/TE's considering just sheer #'s.
I'm most excited for Worthy(DeSean Jackson type we haven't had) and Williams(can never have enough DL).

If we truly do sign the receivers that people think we will get, how bout a really good running back to go with the class. Nobody really scares opposing defenses in the running backs we have. Part of what made Chip Kelly so successful is his offense could hurt you running or passing. Very few teams could take both of those away. Verdell can not be healthy for the whole year. Missed multiple halves last year. Some of that may be having to run up the middle all the time and not utilizing vision. Been a few years since we had a running back that teams would have to game plan for and make sure they stop him.

Unless Oregon drops a player or two, it's not going to happen.Anatinae wrote:Chuba Hubbard might be available.

I was being flippant, but if he enters the pool there will be a lot of teams looking to make room.

If make room it better be done the right way. No kicking players to the curb. If they don't mind riding the bench we need to honor the agreement even if officially they are renewed every year.

Seems like verdell is great in the 0-15 yard gain area but often loses his balance or gets tripped up by the defense's last line of defender to prevent those huge td runs we used to see from our RBs, ie LMJ DAT. On the few long TD runs verdell, has had, he doesn't pull away from the pursuing defenders like the other RBs we've had.GoDucksIn09 wrote:If we truly do sign the receivers that people think we will get, how bout a really good running back to go with the class. Verdell is definitely a good RB, but it makes me wonder if CMC and co. are recruiting different types of running backs than the Chip kelly era coaches.

I don’t think Kelly had a type of RB outside of that they were strong, fast, and patient. And the patient part is what made them different. They didn’t come in that way, Coach Campbell was a magician.alxtw wrote:Seems like verdell is great in the 0-15 yard gain area but often loses his balance or gets tripped up by the defense's last line of defender to prevent those huge td runs we used to see from our RBs, ie LMJ DAT. Verdell is the last Campbell recruit we have on the roster. After that, we'll learn if Mastro knows what he's doing.

It is funny, that this was exactly how I felt.....then I recently read that he has the most 70+ yard runs of any returning running back in the Power 5 conference. I think we generally feel this way because we were used to all those home runs watching Chip's offense. Our running game with Verdell is still very solid.alxtw wrote:Seems like verdell is great in the 0-15 yard gain area but often loses his balance or gets tripped up by the defense's last line of defender to prevent those huge td runs we used to see from our RBs, ie LMJ DAT. I think, as a whole, the Oregon fan base was spoiled by Lamichael and what a truly bad ass college running back he was. Barner was really good too.

Royce
J-Stew
Jeremiah Johnson

Shoot, even Kani Benoit was really solid as well as Tyner in stretches. You could go back further and include the likes of: Morris, Droughns and Onterrio too.
