Re: MBB: Oregon vs Oregon State (Sun 5 PM FS1)
Altman will be regarded as one of the best coaches ever at this university, regardless of sport. The guy just maximizes what he has to work with and molds it like clay.
Oregon essentially won the conference with a 3 guard /2 small forward lineup. That is an incredible feat.
Losing Dante was a huge blow and Kepnang is just not ready. Having all these games back to back with no practice time has really hurt he and Terry, forcing Altman to go with proven guys down the stretch.
What will hurt this year in the tourney.is not having the back line defensive bodies and an inside offensive presence to help Omoruyi. When Lawson subs in, teams go right at him and go on runs. He played better against OSU but he really needs to be more aggressive. To be fair the guy is having to fill the void at 5 guarding players bigger and high skill.
If Altman can get Richardson and maybe a Figueroa to utilize his free year, Altman might have his best roster next year since coming to Oregon.

I believe Richardson is a true junior, so he won't have to utilize a freeze year, but he would need to not declare for the draft! (fingers crossed).
Hopefully we don't have too many transfers OUT this year and we can get Hardy's brother or a top tier transfer wing player to replace Duarte.
We'll almost assuredly go with 2 big men next year with Bittle starting at the "4" spot.

I think with the success that Pritchard is having and the NBA attention that Duarte is getting should push Richardson to consider a return for a senior year. Getting hurt early may prove to be a positive for next years roster. I have heard from a pretty good source that there is a strong possibility that one of the seniors is thinking about an extra season. I do not know who that is. The mystery is the Mormon guy from Utah. He would give Oregon an abundance of bigs. A balanced roster could give Altman a shot at a title, the guy really deserves it.GrantDuck wrote:Very good post.rentdodger wrote:Altman will be regarded as one of the best coaches ever at this university, regardless of sport. I could see Hardy sticking around for another year(outside of LJ), especially if Oregon gets his brother.
A starting lineup of:
-WRich
-Hardy(freshman)
-Williams
-Bittle
-Dante
Would be pretty sweet!

If I had to guess which one, it may be Hardy or Figueroa.

I have no insight on who might stick. Could be more than one or none. Figueroa would provide great senior leadership, press defense and provides that aggressive midsize wing that scores on several levels Altman loves. The problem with Hardy is does he inhibit the development of Terry? I think that Terry has a huge upside. Also there is a transfer guard from the Big12 looking at Oregon. That probably means the other Hardy is most likely off the table.
The key is Richardson, even if none of the seniors consider coming back.

Just wow. Been watching the last few games and this team is clicking on all cylinders. Plus, we are ultra talented this year (mostly starting 5).
We have a chance to go to the Final 4. That's how good our starting 5 is.

We are shooting well, I don't expect shooting 60% the last two games to continue into the tournament. Also, we have no frontcourt, so as soon as we find a team with a few big bodies, we will struggle.dd10snoop28 wrote:Just wow. And yes our starting 5 is amazing, but foul trouble can also be a concern, especially fur Omoruyi.
