It's definitely no coincidence that Huff chose TCU the same day that Grant did...Think of it, if we do manage to land King, it's going to be largely because two of his boys already committed to the Duckies

Just glanced at one of the airline booking sites, round trip from Fort Lauderdale to Dallas/Fort Worth is about 5 hours and $300, Fort Lauderdale to Eugene is nearly 9 hours and $700. Why wouldn't that factor into a decision?duckgrad99 wrote:hines wrote:did you ever think that he's closer to home and it's incredibly cheaper and easier for his parent to see most, if not all, of his college football games? to say that he's afraid of competition is just silly. stop thinking so hard on this stuff. best of luck to him.Biggus Duckus wrote:Shame he's going somewhere else, but you gotta wonder what motivated him. If it's playing time, that means he's afraid of the competition, but we didn't take any RBs last year and LMJ would have two years on the guy if Grant redshirted.
Bullshit. I also think that he is either afraid of the competition or realizes Lamichael James is the man. Going to a school closer to home was never an issue.

That type of thing certainly factors into why many recruits from marginal income families never get Mom and Pop to visit the U of O...

that makes too much sense for some people. i've said it once, i've said it about a dozen times for the past 5 years, it's really hard to get a kid to commit and stay committed when he lives 3k miles away. his parents/friends/family can see him play a hell of a lot more playing in texas than he can here and it's much cheaper. family is a HUGE pull and some people here have obviously forgotten about that. they just want to call him names and prove how "tough" they are on a message board. i do love the hypocrisy.

I'd love to have the kid's speed in this offense, but honestly, it's probably better for him to go to TCU. They don't have two established Fr RBs, it's a lot closer to home, and I'm pretty sure the Mountain West and TCU have gained enough respect to be taken seriously by the NFL and get some quality TV time in the near future. He also transferred to a team that perennially produces 10+ win seasons. Unless he was deeply in love with Oregon itself, there's not a lot of downside for him.

Re: Ethan Grant decommits and commits to TCU
Nobody is trying to prove how tough they are over the internet, lets kill the sensationalism.
Like I said in a previous post, the reasons behind the "decommitment" (a word made up to specifically serve college recruiting I think), don't really matter. Florida and Eugene have been the same distance away since last January, nothing changed geographically; if it's being close to his family that drove him to change, he's known about these concern since the beginning. Why ever commit?
I'm not bashing Ethan personally, I'm bashing the trend (yes even when it goes our way) of recruits "committing" to schools and then bailing. To clarify, yes that means that players like LaMichael should have never committed to schools like Minnesota if they knew they were going to keep taking visits with the thought in mind of changing schools. It's irresponsible, flat out. Don't commit unless you're ready.
Commit:to bind or obligate, as by pledge or assurance; pledge: to commit oneself to a promise; to be committed to a course of action.

Re: Ethan Grant decommits and commits to TCU
The kids are in a tough position (except for the blue chippers). Schools have a limited number of scholarships and often tell prospects when the position is filled the offer is gone. Many kids can't visit during their season and could see their opportunity disappear before they ever have a chance to officially see their early favorite. As frustrating as it is I can understand a player "committing" while he continues to to look at his options.Elduderino wrote:Nobody is trying to prove how tough they are over the internet, lets kill the sensationalism.

An early signing period would help.

Not to mention the ever-changing throughout the football season such as additional recruits, development of current players, success of the team, changes within the team, etc...Reasons for choosing or not choosing a school can change right along with things like these.maxduck wrote:The kids are in a tough position (except for the blue chippers).
