Wyoming and San Diego State were also upset when they missed out on the 160 pound CB Walter Thurmond III.featherbutt wrote:greenyellow wrote:Are both Mitchel and Scales recruited to play CB?
I think we all know why Scales was recruited.
Yes, I know....trust the coaches. I hope they are right.
This new corner weighs 160 pounds. I am shocked we can't get more "ready out of the box" talent. Utah State must be pissed because they missed on this guy.

maxduck.......great response, if I've learned anything following the recruiting process is, its the lesser known recruits or walk-ons, who ultimately pan out to be the players who work the hardest and achieve the most, Give them all a chance, CK, Frost, et al are proving to be very good judges of talent

Patrick Chung. 'Nuff said.
As long as Chip signs off, I'm excited to have any recruit!

JJ wasn't recruited for Defense. He choose Oregon over USC because USC wanted him to play DB, but Oregon said they'd let him play RB.RanDux wrote:Wow, I did not know JJ was recruited for defense.Hoagduck wrote:The coaches also do have a long, proud history of converting DBs to play offense. Jeremiah Johnson, Jeff Maehl, and Kenjon Barner off the top of my head.

Yeah pretty sure your thinking of Whitehead, who was the SoCal defensive player of the year when we recruited him, but we didn't have any RB at the time so he ended up playing O.

JJ wasn't. That's why he came to Oregon ove all the other schools. We were the only ones who were recruiting him to play RB.RanDux wrote:Wow, I did not know JJ was recruited for defense.Hoagduck wrote:The coaches also do have a long, proud history of converting DBs to play offense. most forget or just don't know that JJ had very few scholie offers. Less that 5 if memory serves me correct and I don't think SC was one of them. most schools didn't think he was good enough to be a college rb.

And here he is in the NFL on the injured reserve for Houston. They could have easily have cut him loose, but see something special in him to keep him. So much heart. I've always loved that kid!!! Sat back behind Jonathan patient for his shot.hines wrote:most forget or just don't know that JJ had very few scholie offers. Re: Troy Hill commits
i found from someone who covers recruiting..its an analysis on Hill vs other corners from Cali:
sounds similar to harris if you ask me. both could use some extra weight, but cover skills are legit. jhop indicated that coach neal wanted him badly. i have a lot of excitement about landing this kid rather than the "oh only 3 stars, i guess trust the coaches" reaction. he could end up as a starter for us in a couple years, and a good one. He's on that next tier after Shaw and Wright, I've advocated Hill should be a 4-star. Very quick feet and fluid, a pure cover guy but not a great tackler. Being a 3-year starter at corner he knows the position well and has real nice technique, not a guy who needs to redshirt. Physical upside is limited compared to the aforementioned two.
