Yeah, and it's a who cares football program. And you with your "close to home" crap. This is college, you're supposed to go as far away from home as possible.

Re: 2011 QB Recruits
Well he never had an Oregon offer. And weren't his grades questionable too? I'm no expert but it seems to me like a case of the kid panicking & just securing a full ride somewhere. Wouldn't be surprised to see him decommit once he gets his grades up & more offers start piling up.
Anyone one remember that espn article on QB recruiting a little while back? Kids & their parents tend to go into panic mode. Especially when schools start putting in the pressure to "commit or lose their offer".

Smith technically never committed, but made it sound like he was all oregon no matter what.sx1080 wrote:any verbal that early ( like grants) isnt worth spitUOducksTK1 wrote:This guy sounded as solid as Ethan Grant to Oregon!Boom wrote:http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiti ... itId=77272

But I don't think an early verbal is necessarily the problem. Curtis White will still be a duck. Coleman committed early, and I'd be shocked if doesn't sign to be a duck.
The bigger issue is kids from the other side of the country saying good things about the ducks early. Their minds seem to change pretty quickly. The Ethan Grant was honestly pretty surprising since he visited Oregon twice and made it clear he was a duck.
Afterall, these are just teenagers, so you can never be too sure.

All Oregon no matter what? Even without an offer? He "technically never committed" because he didn't receive an offer. It is hard to commit without one, despite his stated desire to do so.UOducksTK1 wrote:Smith technically never committed, but made it sound like he was all oregon no matter what.
Will the Ducks offer him at some point in the future? It is possible I suppose. As we all know, recruiting doesn't end just because a recruit commits to a school. I have no idea if DaMarcus has any interest in opening his recruitment back up in the future, or if the Ducks will ever want to offer him. All we do know is that a recruit that didn't hold an Oregon offer chose to verbally commit to his local college.

Re: 2011 QB Recruits
He hadn't received an offer yet for a reason. I trust the coaches more then I trust myself and us fans. There are already plenty of other QB's interested in the Ducks in next years class so I am not worried. I am sure Smith will change his mind by the time it is said and done anyways, he seemed really eager to commit somewhere really fast, so grades or something might be an issue. Besides we have Thomas who will only be a RS sophomore next season (another year to get better) and Bennett as a freshman (who will most likely RS with both Masoli and Costa being back and DT getting some reps there will be no need to play BB) We are fine at the QB position and will land someone just as good or better next year.

Oregon hadn't offered him, yet has offered Randall. That probably told him he wasn't high on Oregon's list. Sometimes you have to move on. He has an ACL injury working against him so he may have felt his options would be limited.gofightingducks wrote:He hadn't received an offer yet for a reason. Not saying am not happy witha 4 star recruit at qb but I have always wondered given our offense.. and our coaches what Oregon would/could do with a 5 star qb. I know I am dreaming and we may never get that but I can still wonder.

Wow Jerrard Randall looks really good on that video on scout! He looks raw but very, very, very, very talented. He definitely tops my list for the 2011 recruiting class that and Defensive lineman like every year it seems. I hope Chip pays him a visit sometime soon. Only problem is we will be competing with Florida and Miami for him :/

Derrik Brown looks like he's got the measureables. 6'3" 230
I also noted the Greg Townsend Jr has some early interest in Oregon.
