Decommits from coaching change

There were 3-4 names that have decommitted that people were saying they wouldn’t sign with Oregon. So there’s that

Question: is it normal for incoming coaches to just honor scholarship offers from the preceding coach? Do they have time to even evaluate players, to possibly revoke the offer? I realize we are only a few days til early signing, so different timeframes probably weigh on the options. Where would Lanning be sitting with the current class, and timeframe?

The Pac12 scholarships are set up different than on other places. Basically, you can’t pull a kick old guys off scholarship thing at Pac12 like you can at SEC.. You can strongly suggest people transfer bc they won’t get playing time though.


(I missed the word “offer” in last post…yeah, they can rescind offers but the way Mario was offering, these are guys that Lanning is likely comfortable with by scheme and makeup)

Duck Twitter Space has said that its likely Lanning tries to reach out and either bring back of few of the guys who decommitted like Jahlil Florence or else he'll try and get a few guys who fell just short of getting an offer from UGA and bring them to Eugene.

I doubt any of the guys who have remained committed would get a boot. I think the focus is really on the 2023 class and while Oregon has already built its 2023 board, Lanning knows exactly who is also on Georgia's 2023 board and who he can go after as well.

Not surprised most of the OL guys are leaving. It would be one thing if Mario / Mirabal could actually develop the talent, but it's tough to feel too bad about losing guys that probably would have looked about on par with the line that we have always had.

I'm excited to see our Defense next year and there's been a lot of positive reception from the players about Lanning coming on board. I think he's going to be able to sell his vision of our Defense to recruits in the long term quite well, even if we do lose a few in this class. I think Iuli will stick, but a few others like Moss could be tough to get.

I believe they are encouraging them not to while the new staff gets in place and has a chance to speak to them.

Candidly, it's looking like the only players they will "lose" are the two tackles from Texas. (which makes sense with both Mirabel and MC going).

We also may see some players follow from Georgia. If what I am reading is true, a few top assistants will be coming.

That sucks. Moss looked good, but from the looks of it he was more interested in Mario than he was in Oregon. It sounded like from Moss's interview, after Mario visited him post-conference championship game, that Moss already knew/was told Mario was leaving Oregon.
