I suspect that the new coaches agreed to honor all offers up to early signing day, and then after that, it had to be mutual. As they have had time to assess the situation at every position, as well as assess the current prospects, they were able to develop a better idea what they needed, what fit their scheme, etc. Mells and Roberts signed early, and if they hadn't, I have some doubt about whether would still be in the class. The fact that they both did sign probably made the staff even pickier about further DL prospects this year. It is interesting to note the difference in size between Halton and Ivey - a guy they actually chose themselves. Halton is 6'3, 270, Ivey is 6'6, and was only 215 coming out of high school. I'm sure he's bulked up, but that is a clear difference in body type. I don't think Ivey is coming here, but the offer does give us a clue what they are looking for in a DE.
