All we got then are Boyett, Lewis, Marvin Johnson, and Brian Jackson. That kind of depth is not good, considering the amount of injuries we've sustained the past couple of years.
that kind of depth is not good? really? that depth is pretty damn impressive if you ask me. other than ward, we've been pretty healthy for safeties the last couple of years and just because we lost 2 starters at db this year doesn't mean it will happen again anytime soon. heck, walter gets a direct helmet to the knee on the first play of the game vs. Cal and blows out all 3 ligament and Glasper blows his ACL on a freak practice play. this is football, injuries happen. hell, AZ didn't have their best player the ENTIRE season and they did just ok w/o him.
the last time i was kinda worried at safety was about 2005 when chung was a RS frosh starter. we're more than ok at the safety spot.

It's really not, considering how much Oregon likes to plays safeties on ST also. I would kind of like Oregon to have more than 4 safeties on the team that can play since you never know what can happen. Plus, if you look at that depth, really only 3 are proven with Jackson being a redshirt freshman who has never played a down college football yet. Considering the depth at all of the other spots, safety is one we could be worried about, along with DT.

Excluding kickers there 22 positions on a football team. With an allowance of 85 scholarships wouldn't that provide a 4 deep at nearly every position? If so the list above is lacking optimum depth even with the recruits already committed.
i dont think malone has the coverage skills to play saftey in college right now from the videos i've seen, after a redshirt we'll see, but he likes to hit so that should help on special teams but i think he will play olb.

Add Chad Peppars also freshman Tyrone Radford though listed as CB he is Safety size.
I also think Michael Clay could play that hybrid Safety/Linebacker spot that Marvin Johnson plays sometimes. They often play a formation with Pleasant and Johnson playing bookend (left/right) SAM/Rover. On the other hand even though Clay seems so small for an inside linebacker, he is effective so what the heck that's probably where he will stay.
Safety depth will be a bigger concern if Cliff Harris isn't able to bulk up enough to allow Lewis to go back to Safety full time.

Yeah, most teams strive to have 7-8 scholarship safeties on the roster at any given time, with one or two out of that number redshirting. Like others have pointed out, I don't view this as some sort of desperate situation though. The Ducks aren't far off those numbers when you factor in current commits and there are several players that could fill in at safety in a desperate situation. In addition to the names listed above, walk-on Brian Butterfield will be a senior next season. He is a very hard worker that has a lot of experience in this system and has seen quite a bit of game action as well, particularly on special teams. Obviously you hope it never comes to that, but he is a viable option.
