There are the economics of it that the market will settle over time, but also there is the inevitable results of giving young kids all that money before they have actually accomplished a lot. The NBA stopped letting high-schoolers jump to the league for a reason. Lack of financial maturity and/or motivation to work hard are likely going to claim the careers of some talented kids until some restrictions are put in place.

The NBA stopped high schoolers because the teams kept over drafting them and paying them big money. Many (most?) didn’t work out. They did it to protect themselves from themselves, not because they felt any responsibility to the kids.

Eh, I think a big portion of it was the kids declaring for the NBA draft out of high school, not getting drafted, and then being s*** out of luck because college was no longer an option.

I think the transfer portal will have the same issue..... Kids that got scholarships out of high school and enter the portal for greener pastures and then do not get offered again..... This could devastate hundreds if not thousands of kids.
