Re: Easley to Florida
Great summary Mac. Your right it hurts to get close, but it is possible he could have committed to us and still changed his mind and switched to Florida. It hurts that he blew up at UA and got the offer from Florida in time to change, but on the other hand maybe this helps with Owa and King. It could have been worse if his commit to us effected their discision and than he changed anyway and we loss another of those two. Luginbill said it best that you never really know until signing day and then still it is 2-3 years later as far as how they all pan out. Nice to hear a recruiting expert admit that it is not a exact science. But this hurt because DE looks like he would have helped us yesterday let alone next year.

Sucks for us...but it's how it goes, we did the same thing with Haloti and I think this kind of thing does even out over time. We'll get some this way.MacDuck wrote:Wow, some of the responses to this unfortunate turn of events in this thread are comical. Let's all take a deep breath. This sucks, but the kid got what he wanted and would have just decommitted if he put on the Duck hat today prematurely.
Here's what went down:
7. he has dominating UA practices and obviously start to re think some things
8. Florida folks obviously caught a glimpse of what he was doing
9. UA officials contacted Steve Summers of eDuck to let him know that they fully expected DE to commit to Oregon today
10. According to eDuck, it was learned that DE contacted UF coaches early this morning and committed to them. It is the dead period so he had to initiate the contact
To pose the question again though, did Easley just call UF this morning hoping that an offer would be on the table, it being the dead period?

Further info has come out via Rivals. As already noted, Easley made the final call to UF this morning to say he was committing to them. He indicated that he started having some conversations with the UF people during the week, so they started getting it worked out before today. According to Dominic, what further prompted this, besides his terrific play, was several other kids who were committing to UF as well. They also got in his ear. All he had to do was initiate the contact due to the dead period rules. He wanted to go UF all along and the events of his great week simply worked out very well for him.

Re: Easley to Florida
Just when you thought you saw it all in recruiting. This is definitely one of the weirdest turn of events for the ducks. I know he liked Florida a lot from the beginning, but to just change your mind at the very last minute and being convinced by other recruits at the game is pretty weak.
Funny how scout had an article all ready to write on him also with quotes from his own mouth to why he chose Oregon.
CRAZY! The recruiting roller coaster never ceases to shock and amaze.

He is perhaps the worst source for Oregon recruiting right now.

eDuck is fine. rivals is fine. espn is fine. but you're dealing with 17yrd old kids who like to change their minds. that's why i always laugh at people who freak out over losing recruits. people have to be reminded of this stuff every year. since Chip is the HC, he only gets one visit with a recruit while the assts. get, i believe, one a week. but hey, find the nearest cliff and jump if ya want. you won't be missed.sepdxsnwbrdr wrote:mjenk99 wrote:mdm0302 wrote:Oregon silent commit 4* DL Dominique Easley gets Florida offer late last night, announces for Florida this morning.-tony d's twitter

Re: Easley to Florida
I think this one is a little crazier, because the night before the game, he was still planning to choose UO. Thank you Hines... Really.
People need to be glad for the info that is shared, and accept that 17 year old kids are govenred by hormones and adrenaline.
Admit it, guys!
Most of you were 17, at some point in your magnificent youth!

Re: Easley to Florida
Thanks for all the info guys, especially MacDuck... when I saw this on twitter the day after the Rose Bowl, I kinda wasn't surprised. Obviously the game had little to do with it, but football is all about momentum and crazy stuff like this and the Blount fumble happens.
It's hard to compete with the big boys, but we're getting it done. Imagine 10 years ago if you told someone that a stud LB had decommited from PSU for the Ducks, they would've thought you were crazy. If it hadn't been for Florida coming to their senses, we would've pulled it off too.
We gotta stay up in the top-10 a couple years in a row if we really want stud recruits traveling 3,000 miles to play for us.
Next year will be a real gut check for the program. Win the Pac-10 again and either the Rose or BCS and we'll be well on our way!

Re: Easley to Florida
The HS kids need to grow up seeing that Oregon is a top notch school to get the recruits we want. Not just a flash in the pan Louisville or West Virginia type of thing.
They were obviously hurt by coaching changes but it appears we survived our change pretty well.
