Richardson 41 minutes , zero points, in OT. Back in his shell again. In a game the Ducks needed, desperately. He is killing himself in future earnings overseas, and any shot he had to get to the league. I wouldn’t pay him one dollar

Altman has to sit him - he’s hurting the team. Most frustrating Oregon bball player that I’ve seen.Everythingsducky wrote:Richardson 41 minutes , zero points, in OT. Back in his shell again. That effectively ends any shot they had at an at-large bid. Tough way to lose after they seemingly had the game in-hand multiple times in the 2nd half. Altman probably should have called a timeout to get a better look than that but Richardson needs to either finish or at least draw a foul there. Richardson can't keep being a non-factor this late in the season.

Two shots in regulation. Can’t lie. I’m a little sad. Can’t think of a better word. We need senior leadership. To me it wasn’t about trying or doing enough but rather did someone pay you? Strange to think about. But watch the game and tell me what u think.

The big issue - Who do you give his minutes to? Soares, Rigsby, and Barthelemy were 3 for 21 shooting tonight. The issue is that we don’t have any guards that can consistently score the ball.

I kind of get his thought process. Get the ball into the soft parts of the zone to get good shots for your teammates. The issue is that we don’t have guards that can consistently make those shots. Richardson has to be more aggressive knowing that he doesn’t have the support around him to lift the offense. You can’t keep giving up the ball to Soares, Rigsby and Barthelemy when they shoot you out of the game all night long.ElPatoLoco wrote:Two shots in regulation. Can’t lie. I’m a little sad. I feel bad for Will. I think he was trying to do the right thing, but you just can’t allow that to happen as a 5th year player and the leader of this team.
I hope he can find his fire again, put this team on his back, and close out the year with some wins.

Ware obviously is in the doghouse. If he wasn’t, I’d play him interchangeable with Bittle on the wing, let Cousinrd (SP?) handle it. Richardson hasn’t exactly been careful with the ball this season. Bottom line, not getting to the tourney, play the youngins a lot, and hope they don’t transfer.

I get what you are saying. Push the ball at the soft part of the zone. But as you noted the 3 other guards weren’t successful. If you are the best player on the team then at some point you need to take charge. 2 shots and the 3 other guard were 3 for 20. I can’t think of any top player from HS to the pros that would allow that to happen. Why be the the PG if u don’t control the game

I guess that’s the question. Who would that be? This team is flat out terrible on offense and they are a poor shooting team, especially at the guard position. As bad as Richardson has been at times, he still looks like he is the best option. Who do you give the extra minutes to?
Couisnard and Soares are already playing 30 minutes a game. And Soares numbers on offense are flat out terrible. He shoots 37% from the floor and 27% from three. There is a reason other teams are leaving him open when he is more than 10 feet from the basket a lot of the time. The only reason Soares is on the floor is because he hustles, plays good defense, and makes his FTs, which is more than you can say for most of the other guards outside of Richardson and Couisnard.
Barthelemy is already playing 25 minutes a game. However, he is a liability on defense and doesn’t shoot it or pass it as well as Richardson. He also takes some questionable shots, but at least he shoots it above 40% from the floor, which is better than most at the guard position.
Rigsby has some springs and can rebound a little bit, but again you are sacrificing offense, which is the glaring issue on this team. He shoots 39% from the floor and 27% from three. I don’t see a reason to play him over Richardson, as Richardson is better on both ends of the court. And Soares is essentially the same player on offense, but is better on defense and gets to the line sometimes.
Williams was supposed to be a great scorer. However, he hasn’t taken shots when he is in there and has missed every three he has taken this year. How do you continue to play a guy that has made a total of 14 shots in 131 minutes played and is 0% from three? It’s not like he is an elite defender.
The other two guards are walkons, so not even going to go there. I am not in the “fire Altman” crowd, but he really screwed this up this year. We don’t have any guards that are aggressive or that are elite shooters. I am willing to cut him some slack for the last two years, but he has got to flip the roster at the guard position and get some guys in here that can actually play in his offense.

Last night was why I refused to even pay attention to bracketology this year. Zero faith in this team, the whole game you knew they would lose at the end. UW isn’t very good but they at least have players who want to try to win the game. This team is just so poorly assembled. Altman needs to take a serious look at his process and just hang it up if these are the type of teams he’s going to roll out every year.
Not even sure what to say about Richardson. He was blatantly passing up open looks, like he had an order to not shoot. Very strange. The result was Soares being forced to create and force bad shots most of the night.

I think so. He looks physically more developed than Pritchard was at this stage and Dana has spent a lot of time up there watching his games.StevensTechU wrote:Lets hope Shelstad has 'it.'
