I've been thinking about whether this helps overall, and I really don't know. It might help us further dominate the Pacific coastline states as one of the "4 power teams." It might also help us fend off eastern teams who have made major progress with landing the 5* and high 4* level talent in California and washington in recent years

Conversely, is Texas going to be a lot harder to recruit now? How about Utah and Arizona? Oregon already pillages the Midwest quite a bit, so I don't see those states making up for losses if we do see a down tick in those three states.

I think it absolutely will help our recruiting going forward since we are a national brand and this will give us even more direct exposure in places we've already started recruiting.

Oregon is already putting out Big 10 edits for recruits.

I should have mentioned in the original post I heard “rumors” that Lanning himself had said schools were using the Pac 12 as a negative in recruiting.

But it didn’t help Michigan either. He also said no to Alabama. Being local and in Mormon territory was clearly a higher priority.

Nebraska is the cautionary tale. When they left the Big 12 for the Big Ten, they traded recruiting ties in Texas for ones in Illinois, and through many different coaches, have bled out talent year by year.

Like I stated, maybe this helps keep the Bryce Youngs and CJ Strouds on the west coast, which would be huge. Maybe it doesn't, and instead severs ties is AZ and UT as those kids opt for Utah and Baylor.

Hard to say at the moment.

Why would it affect Texas recruiting? We didn't have ties there before, we don't now. If anything it should help because we'll be on TV and in big matchups more often now.

i think their problem was that bill callahan was a bad fit and then they couldn't improve upon peLLLLinis four losses a year and his anger issues. hiring a string of non recruiters and nfl types placated the fans but ignored the role of the student athlete to winning. if that was hubris, well thats always a concern for a program but i think our national approach for a lot of sports benefits from this. theres a major basketball pool along the great lakes and its proximity to our canadian pipelines

I'm hopeful that it has none. On the other side of things, the new Big XII gives a lot more teams a strong pitch for Texas talent. I really don't know how it'll shake out.

I don’t think we were ever seriously being considered by him. Pretty sure he was all Georgia all the way.
