no, it's like pulling teeth to get them qualified at Oregon

As long as we get Owa, King isn't a big loss. And I wouldn't give up on him yet. Signing day is still a month away & Gabe has been all over the place as far as the scholl hes favoring. Come Feb he could be back on the oregon bandwagon.

Owa has always seemed like the biggest long shot of the DE's that we have been targeting. I am not holding my breath on either of those guys at this point. Hopefully we can snag Potoae or Heiumuli... or both. I would love to have King or Owa but honestly, a stud DT is a much bigger need.

People are funny if they think Oregon can't recruit DT's. If the last 3 All American DT's that we recruited in the last three years would of qualified we would not be having this conversation. Do you know how many starting DT's in the NFL are from UO? Three and one is a Pro-Bowler. And we have 5 DT's that are in heavy rotations. Yes the last 2 years have been hard. But no worries. Have faith.

BTW, it would be great if we could go make the hard press for UKO now that USC is crumbling.

Yeah I've kinda cooled on Ricky because of the mission thing. We need DTs NOW, not 3 years down the road. Getting him would be great but wouldn't solve the issies we have. If he were to pull a Haloti & skip the whole thing, then I'd be all for getting him.

And I think Owa seems like a long shot simpley because he holds everything so close to the vest. We've never known who he likes or favors through this whole process. One thing that we do know though is his mom wants him close to home. That is something that makes me feel like we have as good of a shot as anyone. When it comes time for him to make his decision I think we will be very much in it.

I would rather have Ricky and risk the mission thing than miss out on him altogether. Now, if we somehow had to choose between him and another highly rated DT, then of course we should take the one that isn't going to bolt on us. I don't think that will be an issue though. Plus if you end up being known as an LDS friendly school, it could land us a lot of big boys down the line. I definitely think it would be worth the risk of losing him for his mission.

Yeah I definitely agree with that. I was just saying because of that, I don't want him over Gabe or Owa.

I hear ya, I just don't think we will be in that position. It seems like we will be lucky to land one of those guys, and if push comes to shove, we would make room for all 3 if they choose to commit.

Surprisingly, Oregon has actually landed guys such as Ngata because the coaches were able to convince the families there is a strong support system for LDS players in this community.

It seems like we haven't had as much of a LDS connection since Ngata left though. Maybe that is just my own misconception though.

I am not sure how many current Ducks are LDS.

There was a recent Portland Tribune article which mentioned CK letting practice out early so some players could attend Sunday services. Will Tukuafu and Brandon Bair were specifically identified in the article as LDS.

http://www.portlandtribune.com/sports/s ... 8594789400

This article, from the Mormon Times, identifies Tukuafu, Bair, and 2 others, OL Mark Asper and reserve TE Sam Doman, as already having taken their missions.

http://www.mormontimes.com/people_news/sports/?id=12414

"Outside of Utah, only New Mexico State (B.J. Adolpho, Ka'ua Adolpho, David Niumatalolo and Michael Zant) has as many returned missionaries on its roster as Oregon and Oregon State do."

It is kind of impressive that the 2 Oregon universities are thought of that highly, given the national perception of Oregon (The State) as relatively 'unchurched'.
