Rumors of Smith going to Michigan State are heating up, I wonder if it will be a distraction for the Beavs this Friday.

People, and teams always gripe about having so many injuries. I think it begs conversation on how lucky the Ducks have been, for the most part, this year. Trying to think back when they didn’t have key player/players out in an important late stretch of games. Ducks have been seriously fortunate. But they also haven’t been this deep. Jinx unintentional.

The most major injury they had was Jestin Jacobs missing the first half of the season. If Oregon had him against UW, he probably makes a big difference there.

If Addison doesn’t quit on the team, he for sure makes a difference at IW.

What a bummer, though in some ways I’m surprised it took this long if this rumors are true, real credit to Smith and the coaching staff to keep them focused as long as they did, WSU lost focus way earlier. I thought there was a chance that once they lost to the Huskies and were officially out of contention for the final Pac-12 championship that their motivation would decrease, I suppose we’ll see this Friday.

Bummer to hear this. I remember when this happened under Helfrich and the only way to clean it up is getting rid of the guys who are problems. I honestly hope it's not happening because Smith is a good guy who is giving his all.

Heard he had some family stuff going on but can't confirm.

He has had a rough go, he lost both parents. Mom died in child birth a few years ago and his father passed a couple of years ago I believe from a heart attack so there could be many things in play here.

I however would not be surprised to see him in the portal if he decides to continue.

Hope for the best for him.

It's a product of Dan building a really good roster. Someone posted a snap count sheet earlier this season and even the best players on defense (Dorlus, Khyree, etc) weren't getting 50% or just over 50% of the snaps at the position.

1. Builds depth
2. Reduces stress on their bodies
3. Even if there is an injury, you don't lose 80% of your production at the position just because of the injury.

I don’t think it totally is like the Helfrich deal. The fact that every scholarship guy in that locker room ONLY signed with the beavs, so they could be a power 5 player. Now they won’t be. And now they have no shot at the conference, guys are just ready to move on.

Don't disagree necessarily. Just making the point that losing the locker room is very tough and chances are it started earlier in the season . The lynchpin might have been the loss at UA where the play calling was scrutinized big time and now coupled with the UW loss plus the uncertainty they are facing its a very slippery slope.

Canzano talked to Smith today and in reading the transcript of the convo none of Smith's answers about the future were as emphatic or definitive as DL. Left a lot open which is not surprising.
