Re: 2023 Early Signing Day Thread
So now that he is signed and everything, Trent Ferguson goes to school at West Salem and ive run into him a few times at fundraisers and the like. I asked him where he was going to play. He said they are going to start him at Right Tackle but he wants to play TE or DE and the staff is open to that.
Just a tidbit I thought I would throw out there.

What's up with Kamar Mothudi? Looks like he is the only guy that hasn't signed yet.

Thanks spacefrog!
Overall, have to love that we have a TOP 5 class! Amazing work from the staff especially on the defensive front 7. Obviously, we never know what will come of it, we've had a couple highly ranked classes that didn't pan out because evaluation wasn't great or injuries happened.
That said, based on the highlights for these kids, it looks like it's a class full of potential!

I know it's a limited sample size, but I feel like either the evaluation or development (or both) by this coaching staff is off the charts better than Mario's staff. Most outsiders don't understand when we talk about how much the program has improved under Lanning's watch because the win/loss records are similar... but those same people also easily forget that it was USC & UW favored to win the Pac-12 this year and Oregon pushed UW to the brink (and left easy points on the table). I love Oregon's trajectory and have complete faith in this class being excellent.Overall, have to love that we have a TOP 5 class! Amazing work from the staff especially on the defensive front 7. I can't remember the last time I had so few concerns about this team. Title within three years? Maybe next season? I feel like we're on that trajectory. Great time to be a Duck.
Willie Taggart is a dick.

I think evals have certainly been better. Development I really think we'll start to see this year with the 2023 DB/DL class that was highly touted. (Green, Washington, Bowens, Pleasant, Austin). If those guys start to pop next year, it'll mean we are on the right track.pezsez1 wrote:I know it's a limited sample size, but I feel like either the evaluation or development (or both) by this coaching staff is off the charts better than Mario's staff. I'm sure they said they're open to that, but IMO, he's already too big to play TE and he's too raw to play DE on this roster. He'd need to get into the 260's to realistically play TE. I think his lacrosse and basketball athleticism will only help him play Tackle but its possible he could be used as a tackle eligible TE/6th OL in the goalline if he's truly got soft hands.spacefrog13x wrote:So now that he is signed and everything, Trent Ferguson goes to school at West Salem and ive run into him a few times at fundraisers and the like. Geez SC mods cry so much. And the fact they believe the BS that they aren’t paying HS recruits NIL. Seriously not one recruit is turning down 10k much less 100k, to sign someplace else. They would lose their top recruit right now if they really aren’t getting him a deal. You can’t keep top talent without paying them. It’s just the way college football is now.Duck07 wrote:

excellent summary Pez and i totally agree about Mario. All he did was look at stars. That was his only method of evaluation. A program insider told me his ability to assess anything beyond stars was nonexistent.pezsez1 wrote:I know it's a limited sample size, but I feel like either the evaluation or development (or both) by this coaching staff is off the charts better than Mario's staff. Yes. Reportedly down to Oregon and Michigan. Won't enroll until after his LDS mission, though.pdxduck2013 wrote:Is Gatlin Bair still in play too?

Mission is a maybe at best. I think he’s also waiting for now to see what Harbaugh does. Not JH heads back to the nfl, he’s a duck lock.StevensTechU wrote:Yes. Reportedly down to Oregon and Michigan. Won't enroll until after his LDS mission, though.pdxduck2013 wrote:Is Gatlin Bair still in play too?
