QUACK! Top S McNutt commits!

Should be green and yellow, would be a massive pickup for us. One position we've struggled to recruit at an elite level is safety, so hopefully McNutt is the beginning of many more elite safeties to follow.

The west coast has 6'1, 190 pound athletes in droves. John Neal was a modest recruiter but fantastic scout. Star chasing has killed our DB units generally for quite a while.UOducksTK1 wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2024 10:48 am https://247sports.com/player/trey-mcnutt-46133808/

We have definitely star chased certain position groups, but safety group has been pretty modest for a decade...StevensTechU wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2024 12:53 pmThe west coast has 6'1, 190 pound athletes in droves. From 2014-2018, we didn't have any 4/5 star S commit.
2019, Jevon Holland and Steve Stephens (138th and 231st recruit ranking)
2021, Daymon David (203rd)
2022, Trejon Williams (363th)
2024, Aaron Flowers (102nd)
2025, ?
I would say Flowers and Holland were really are only prized safety commits in 10+ years (I really like Flowers btw).
I feel like our OL and DL recruiting definitely went the star chasing route and we saw that with a relatively low success rate.

Is that your way of saying McNutt isn’t stellar? Legit question.StevensTechU wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2024 12:53 pmThe west coast has 6'1, 190 pound athletes in droves. Re: Top S McNutt deciding Friday 7/19
I haven't watched his film. My point is that Oregon's safeties since Neal's departure have largely been below average in the Pac-12, with 3 individual exceptions - Holland, McKinley, and Breeze. Considering most of the Pac-12 recruits almost exclusively the west coast and Oregon could snatch recruits from those other schools, it implies that Oregon might be doing itself a disservice by not paying enough attention to the region and would benefit by scouting deeper rather than wider. It's not lost on my that 2 of the 3 exceptions I mentioned are from Oregon and California.OregonFan4Life wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2024 2:03 pmIs that your way of saying McNutt isn’t stellar? Not sure of the time, since they didn't see fit to include the time zone.SuperDuck wrote: Fri Jul 19, 2024 4:39 amDoes anyone know what time he's announcing?UOducksTK1 wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2024 10:48 am https://247sports.com/player/trey-mcnutt-46133808/

He's now pushed it back to August 3rd. Not sure if that's good or bad news for Oregon, especially with Texas A&M coming on strong and Ohio State still lurking.
Edit: Does look like this is more logistical than anything else.

Certainly not ideal for Ducks, but apparently it got pushed back cuz of logistics. Flight issues today (obviously), so August 3rd was next availability for McNutt to publicly announce.

But there is talk that A&M is making a major push for him late and that's also what pushed things back.UOducksTK1 wrote: Fri Jul 19, 2024 11:54 am Certainly not ideal for Ducks, but apparently it got pushed back cuz of logistics. Regardless of him committing to a school today or Aug. 3 it’s not like other schools are going to quit recruiting him just because he gave a verbal commitment. Oregon is still recruiting DJ guaranteed. Until there is a non tampering rule put into place for once a kid verbally commits (even then, who’s going to in force it? How long until the NCAA is completely done as a hinderance to all things student athletes?rsbgduck wrote: Fri Jul 19, 2024 12:29 pmRegardless of him committing to a school today or Aug. 3 it’s not like other schools are going to quit recruiting him just because he gave a verbal commitment. McNutt will be visiting both Texas A&M and Oregon this week.
