I think Miami goes after the most "Cam Ward-like" QB in the transfer portal, even though there's clearly no replica, so I'm putting my money on Darian Mensah of Tulane to end up in Coral Gables.

Aside: Will Ty Thompson FINALLY start in college now that the guy ahead of him is transferring out?

12/7/2021 is when Miami announced Mario as coach. Look at us now.

Cristobal is clearly a below average game-day coach. But he is a top recruiter. So I will say the same thing I said when he was here. It makes sense to wait and see how well he does once he's had 5 years to flip the roster.

The turn around he's had at Miami in three years is impressive. They were horrible before he showed up. I think there's a strong chance he gets them to playoff in the next two years.

It does seem like Lanning is better. But that doesn't mean Cristobal is useless.

Not saying or implying he is useless.

The thing with Mario is we are seeing the same issues at Miami that plagued him at Oregon, specifically his inability to properly prepare his team for games, horrible game management, bad decision-making at critical times and poor clock management.

He doesn't learn and get better. You have to ask yourself why he keeps making the same mistakes repeatedly.

He is a good recruiter but the net is he does not win when it matters most.

Miami fans seem to be getting tired of his act. They thought he was going to restore them to the glory years and they are now in year 3 of Mario and playing in the Pop Tarts bowl.

He would be a good Line coach and a really great recruiter. That is obviously where he would be the MOST VALUABLE to any team, not as a head coach. This should be obvious to anyone who's watched him on the sidelines during games.

There was a reason Saban demoted him from Asst Head Coach to OL coach only.

Word is Saban was happy when he took the job at Oregon

He's proven himself enough as a HC to get HC money. There's not a single school that will pay HC money for an OL coach. I do agree with you in theory, that'd he'd be best as OL coach. But we live in the real world, and he's turned two programs (Oregon and Miami) in a positive direction as a HC. No chance he goes back to being an OL coach until/unless he completely fails as a HC.

Saban also demoted him from full O-Line coach to co-O-Line coach. His best job is as a head coach, but he has his limitations. Because he recruits so well and hires pretty good assistants (who he often hinders) he can consistently put together good teams and have good records. He may even get to the playoffs on occasion. I think he is an excellent choice if your goal is to compete for conference championships in other than the B1G and SEC.
