Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
Jaeden Moore enters the portal. Second person after Winston at the position to look for greener pastures.

Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
This is one of those "this seems fishy" deals. Tuioti (player) gets super majority of reps. Second most reps (Winston) transfers. Third most reps (Moore) transfers. Fourth most reps (Purchase) had playing time greatly reduced. So now we're hoping fifth most reps (Rushing) is the reason for guys leaving, even though he played zero meaningful snaps.
I wonder if Tuioti (coach) should've been rotating guys more all season to keep them happy. Isn't like his kid was playing at an all conference level.

Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
What's even weirder is Winston was losing snaps to Moore and both still end up transferring. That's not to mention they also lost Jaxson Jones, who was RS'ing. The 2023 DL/Edge class is really starting to thin out as Moore, Pome'e, and Bowens have all transferred out. They almost have to hit the market for a few Edges/DEs this offseason for depth purposes.StevensTechU wrote: Mon Dec 16, 2024 8:01 pmThis is one of those "this seems fishy" deals. I think purchase was hurt early, then they decided to just RS him this year. Hence him not playing a ton.StevensTechU wrote: Mon Dec 16, 2024 8:01 pmThis is one of those "this seems fishy" deals. Tuioti had more tackles, sacks, and TFL’s than Jack Sawyer who was second team all conference.StevensTechU wrote:This is one of those "this seems fishy" deals. Jack Sawyer is terrible. Most overrated player in the big. Vs Connelly he had no stats, and I didn’t even know he was on the field

To be fair, Tuioti is a half a sack behind JT Tuimoloau, the second most overrated player in the conference, who was voted as first team ahead of Uiagalelei.buckmarkduck wrote: Jack Sawyer is terrible. I just felt it weird that STU has repeatedly bagged on Tuioti for some weird reason.

Ya, I haven't been doing film review of games or anything, but Tuioti has never struck me as a player we need more from.

Would Tuioti have played as much this season if his dad wasn’t the DL coach?

You have a very loose definition of "bagging on" if you think my questioning of why a single player gets 95% of the snaps when the first three guys on the depth chart have comparable talent and room for growth.webfoots2001 wrote: Mon Dec 16, 2024 9:41 pmTo be fair, Tuioti is a half a sack behind JT Tuimoloau, the second most overrated player in the conference, who was voted as first team ahead of Uiagalelei.buckmarkduck wrote: Jack Sawyer is terrible. Unfortunately, I do wonder if there's a 'coach's kid' situation happening here and that's why we're seeing a concentration of guys at one position hit the portal.

Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
So there's a ton of complaining about players transferring and ways to fix it, but I think about the only thing you could do is to make the Portal open once, after the Spring. You play for a school, you're there for a year because you're also a student-athlete.
I'm not sure what the major downside to it would be for a player, you'd have a 1-2 month window in the Spring after classes to make your choice. Coaches and Teams aren't in season and can focus on the actual games and players can see what happens after the Spring Game/Practices to see where they fall on their respective Depth Charts.
That seems like a far more reasonable solution to me than some of the other ideas I've heard as I think it also solves all of the major issues people can find with the Portal being open now.

Per The Oregonian snap counts (which do not include special teams) and GoDucks.com defensive statsStevensTechU wrote:You have a very loose definition of "bagging on" if you think my questioning of why a single player gets 95% of the snaps when the first three guys on the depth chart have comparable talent and room for growth.webfoots2001 wrote: Mon Dec 16, 2024 9:41 pmTo be fair, Tuioti is a half a sack behind JT Tuimoloau, the second most overrated player in the conference, who was voted as first team ahead of Uiagalelei.buckmarkduck wrote: Jack Sawyer is terrible. Tuioti has played 568 snaps and has 54 total tackles, 6.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks, and 5 QBH
Winston has played 244 snaps and has 8 tackles, 0 TFL, 0 sacks, and 0 QBH
Seems like one player has been far more effective no matter who their father is. It also would seem strange that a maniac like Lanning would let a position coach give preference to any player if they looked poor on film compared to other players.

Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
That was my thought too - doesn't Lanning pay special attention to the defensive side? Seems like you have to go down the list a bit to get to the position coach in terms of who is playing. Also, it felt like they over-recruited at that position the last few years, and these transfers could be just the second shoe dropping. If you have extra schollies to play with, getting extra front-seven guys and then seeing who is best among them and culling a few isn't a bad strategy. Someone might not think Tuioti is all that exceptional, but he is probably better than the guys who are leaving.webfoots2001 wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 11:40 amPer The Oregonian snap counts (which do not include special teams) and GoDucks.com defensive statsStevensTechU wrote: You have a very loose definition of "bagging on" if you think my questioning of why a single player gets 95% of the snaps when the first three guys on the depth chart have comparable talent and room for growth.
