Scoop duck is reporting a key player is transferring, that’s concerning with the playoffs coming up.

Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
Finally got around to watching Harkey's tape from JUCO and from the Arizona State game this season at Texas State. He was a high school defensive end, then tight end his first year in JUCO, then moved to offensive tackle and has been learning the position while going school to school (Tyler JC, Colorado, Texas State, and now Oregon). I'm curious how big he actually is and what his story in the weight room is, as he certainly isn't a hulking figure and doesn't overpower defenders. He seems like he has good feet, but I wouldn't describe him as a natural pass-blocker. All-in-all, I would describe him as "serviceable," and hope that perhaps someone rises above the fray and Harkey is a rotation player. If he's the starter, he'll be OK, but a significant dropoff from what we're all used to seeing at the position with so many NFL guys coming through.

They aren't "reporting" this...it is just a rumor on the message board. I think the rumor is likely legit, but people can draw their own conclusions.
I don't even know if this rumor would be considered news, since it just seems like something everyone is already aware is happening. Other teams are actively trying to entice Oregon players away with financial incentives. We may, or may not, lose a couple of potential, future starters due to this. Perhaps things are looking more dire than normal (thus prompting the rumor?), since in the past the Dan has been able to keep most everyone he really wanted to keep, but none of this should really come as a surprise to anyone. College football is truly the Wild Wild West for the foreseeable future.

No specific names, just vague messages (nothing of value beyond what I outlined above) that prompted a message board panic. If the Ducks are able to take care of things behind closed doors, the general public probably won't hear anything about any of this. If the Ducks aren't able to take care of things behind closed doors, we will get some more portal news on Twitter. That is what it sounds like to me.

Oh yay.
We've seen schools like Alabama that have immense operating budgets get raided, so it shouldn't come as a surprise Oregon would get hit. We have a smaller operating budget compared to competition due to concessions made to the Big 10 and having a smaller stadium. We have a smaller donor base due to being a university half the size of many competitors inside a state that has many fans rooting for the 'other' school. And so then you're left with Phil Knight trying to make us equal to others almost on his own.
It's going to be a tough road at least until we get full Big 10 payouts.

The question I and other Duck fans have is when the words “key player” is thrown out, does that mean a key player for future years or this year? If we lose an important starter for the playoffs cause of this stupid portal window along with getting the toughest path as the top seed, that would be really frustrating.

You won’t know because it’s just a rumor. Why keep focusing on it?OregonFan4Life wrote:The question I and other Duck fans have is when the words “key player” is thrown out, does that mean a key player for future years or this year? Re: Ducks Transfer Portal - 2024-25
ScoopDuck podcast on YT just ended. There was a lot of focus on the Dallas Wilson decommit and other recent transfer news and no teasers of 'key player' transferring.
I'm leaning towards this being about DW & not another transfer. If there is another transfer, the 'key player' aspect is probably being overhyped.
Oregon as a program is checking nearly every box that is in their control to maximize desirability for players & recruits. Most transfers out are going to be due to getting buried on the depth chart. For high value recruits, the overall culture of Eugene & the Pacific Northwest might not be compatible for kids growing up in Miami or Dallas for example. Chasing more NIL than Oregon is willing to give them could be a factor with both.

I know we have had some great players from FLA in the past (Tony Brooks-James, Brandon Dorlus, J. Scott) but the PNW is hard on people from Florida and the deep south the first year or two. Lack of sun, the weird allergies in the valley, completely different cultural context. its a lot for young folks to handle. If they arent dialed in and ready, the valley can really get to you in the non-summer months.

Why are people so sure Bedford can come back? I haven’t seen anything about him being granted another year.StevensTechU wrote: Wed Dec 18, 2024 12:50 pm What do the recruitniks say with regard to Johnson committing? Are we still pushing for Max Klare or another highly regarded TE?
I wonder if Harney might move inside. Seems like he and Bedford could both play guard or tackle, while maybe neither is a world beater at either (or World beater, in the case of Isaiah).
