Other Guys Bowl Games 2024
Ty Thompson gets picked on the first play of the game for Tulane. Ran a flea flicker and just put it up for anyone to take.

Threw it to Trikweze Bridges, no less! Hoping for the best for Ty at his next stop.StevensTechU wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 1:57 pm Ty Thompson gets picked on the first play of the game for Tulane. Ran a flea flicker and just put it up for anyone to take.

Guarantee this isn't the first time Trikweze has picked him off.droop10 wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 1:59 pmThrew it to Trikweze Bridges, no less! For as meaningless as bowl games have become and how many opt outs there are, these games have been fantastic. Toledo and Pitt was fantastic and went to 6OT (pseudo OTs since most are 1-play OTs). Now, Rutgers and Kansas State has been back and forth and will come down the wire.

I was noticing how close the games are. But haven’t really watched any of them. Bowl games losing their luster.

Can't wait to hear about how good Navy is from the crowd in the humid part of the country.

Score got out of hand, but I would watch a 7-game series of Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt. Bully ball versus spread. Both teams fired up.

Wazzu's next man up at quarterback, Zevi Eckhaus, looks fantastic. I understand why John Mateer was the starter, but Eckhaus is cut from the same cloth. He's 20/26 for 262 yard and run for another 27 midway through the 3rd quarter. The transfers are really killing Wazzu's pass defense, though.

7-7 USC and Texas A&M. Hate to root for USC, but seeing a middling Big Ten team go 2-0 against that conference down south would be entertaining.

I assumed it was over when A&M was up 24-7, I was shocked to see USC ended up winning 35-31! Unfortunately Indiana pulled a no show and Rutgers choked against Kansas State, but so far the B1G is looking good in bowl season.

Eh, I don’t see the point in paying attention to the bowl results and taking anything from them. With transfers and guys opting out, there’s a bunch of players on both teams playing that shouldn’t be. They’re just meaningless exhibition games at this point. I mean they always were, but have truly become pointless in recent years with all the opt outs.

You could say all games that don't include national title contenders are "meaningless exhibition games." I guess it's in the eye of the beholder.droop10 wrote: Sat Dec 28, 2024 9:47 am Eh, I don’t see the point in paying attention to the bowl results and taking anything from them. Re: Other Guys Bowl Games 2024
At least in non-bowl games you generally have the actual teams’ full rosters playing. These days, you have a bunch of 3rd and 4th stringers playing, so the winner of the bowl game is generally who has the fewest opt outs. I just don’t feel like any inferences can be made around conference strength or quality of teams based on these games. Not proposing scrapping bowl games or that people shouldn’t watch them. I think it’s a nice low stakes opportunity for young guys to get reps to prep for future seasons.StevensTechU wrote: Sat Dec 28, 2024 11:06 amYou could say all games that don't include national title contenders are "meaningless exhibition games." I think my breaking point on taking away anything from these games was when Utah played the Rose Bowl with a RB starting at corner due to injuries and opt outs, allowing Ohio St. to throw for 600 yards. These can be fun games to watch, they can’t be used to make any valuable assessments at all.
