Media voting didn't show Oregon hardly any love, so just posting coaches voting:
THIRD TEAM
Nate Bittle, Oregon
Jackson Shelstad, Oregon
ALL-DEFENSIVE TEAM
TJ Bamba, Oregon

Re: Big Ten Awards
I think Bittle should have gotten at least 2nd team with how he's played the last month. Probably the most dominant big man on both ends of the floor. Glad Bamba got recognized for his defense that has been key for Oregon down the stretch.

I both love and hate how much the B1G media hates Oregon, it’s even noticeable at times on the B1G network. It’s annoying but also reflects that Oregon is a threat to their “traditional” ways in the B1G in both basketball and football.

Definitely agree about Bamba and Bittle and I don't think Sleepwalking Shelstad deserved to be honored on the same team as Bittle, was just right for honorable mention.greenyellow wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 1:19 pm I think Bittle should have gotten at least 2nd team with how he's played the last month. Geez, you really ride Shelstad, especially given that the team would have a considerably worse record without him. The guy has the occasional off game as an undersized sophomore guard with teams focused on him defensively, and apparently he's just out there sleepwalking. It is entirely possible that Washington just had a good defensive gameplan for him and he struggled to adjust. He's been great more than he's struggled. Guys can have bad games and not be sleepwalking or lacking in heart.Merganzer wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 3:18 pmDefinitely agree about Bamba and Bittle and I don't think Sleepwalking Shelstad deserved to be honored on the same team as Bittle, was just right for honorable mention.greenyellow wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 1:19 pm I think Bittle should have gotten at least 2nd team with how he's played the last month. It wasn't just the Washington game. you're right, it might not be lack of heart at all, he might just not be talented enough. Do you believe that Shelstad had as good a season as Bittle did?droop10 wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 4:36 pmGeez, you really ride Shelstad, especially given that the team would have a considerably worse record without him. Re: Big Ten Awards
He shot over 47% behind the arc in conference play.. Something only a few other players in the conference could say that.
He was also our leading scorer in conference play with 15.2 ppg.
I’m listing conference stats because I do think when they make the All Big Ten awards, their play in conference holds more weight.
His consistency is for sure mind boggling, but he had a great sophomore year in conference play for sure.

I am a fan of both, and both are big pieces of the team. I do think he had as good a season as Bittle. I think recency bias is playing into this a bit. Bittle had a 6 game stretch where he only scored double digits twice, including 0 points at Minnesota. This happened to coincide with the 5 game losing streak.Merganzer wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 7:22 amIt wasn't just the Washington game. you're right, it might not be lack of heart at all, he might just not be talented enough. I'm not sure there's anybody in the country that has hit more big time pressure shots this season than Shelstad. Saying he's not talented is another unnecessary slight. He's a small guard, which makes creating shots, especially against certain matchups very difficult. I think he's improved at that aspect a lot this year from last year, and will likely continue to improve over his time at Oregon. Pritchard was a similar player and his switch didn't really flip until the end of his junior year. Shelstad has played a huge part in the end of season run. I just don't understand the constant ragging of the guy.

Re: Big Ten Awards
I think Merganzer is being overly critical of Shelstad but there were a couple of games where something seemed off with him. I can overlook cold shooting nights but the Washington game it felt like he knew the game didn’t affect their seeding so he didn’t care and there was the Iowa game I think it was where he had some incredibly dumb turnovers including stepping out of bounds for no reason and a backcourt violation. Shelstad to me is the most important player on the team, but I think it’s fair to admit he had a couple of weird off games where it seems like his mind wasn’t fully in the game, but those are far and few between.
Good news is from here on out, every game matters a ton, so I’m sure we will get the best version of Shelstad going forward.

OF4L, Droop10, you both make solid points, though we're coming from different sides here, the middle ground is that Shelstad & Bittle...and the rest of the team have to all play their best basketball now. Better I think then early in the season when they beat Alabama & A & M, coming from behind is great, but thinking that's a way to advance now is faulty. This game against Indiana is huge. Win, a 5 seed is very likely, lose, maybe 7, or the dreaded 8-9.OregonFan4Life wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 10:15 am I think Merganzer is being overly critical of Shelstad but there were a couple of games where something seemed off with him.

I think we’ll see it, at the very least I think we’ll see a great effort, obviously anything can happen in the NCAA tourney, but I think this team will give everything they have.Merganzer wrote:OF4L, Droop10, you both make solid points, though we're coming from different sides here, the middle ground is that Shelstad & Bittle...and the rest of the team have to all play their best basketball now.
