Poll: so...who are we gonna get?
Trying to get a feel for our recruiting confidence. What remaining recruits are going to commit to the Ducks? You can vote for multiple.

For some reason, I really feel the most comfortable about Owa from that list. From what I've read lately, I think he's gonna stay close to home.

I do not feel comfortable with any of them except maybe Dargan. I am sure we will get others. I guess am just too skeptical to have any leanings on the 4 and 5 star recruits.

Where is Jefferson? Anyway, him, Dargan, Owa, Werner, and Huff. Hopefully Lache too.

Exactly what I voted. That'd be about as amazing a class as we've ever had.UOducksTK1 wrote:Where is Jefferson? Anyway, him, Dargan, Owa, Werner, and Huff. Hopefully Lache too.

I voted Dargan and Lache. I also think King will go Oregon, but there have been so many rumblings to the contrary I'm now second guessing myself.
We won't land a big name DT, it's Oregon, we'll spend the majority of our time going after speed players for offense, then try to fill in the gaps on D. Part of the reason that Allioti gets such a bad rap is that we don't ever land big named D players. Last time we had a huge Defensive Recruit? Haloti Ngata.
Probably the best player to play at Oregon period, not named Bobby Moore or Dan Fouts.

I've always felt that NA's D struggles at times because he is forced to bring blitzes from the LBs and secondary to shore up weak spots in the DL. We've never really had a DL that was made up completely of 4-5* players. There's always a starter or 2 that was weakly or never recruited by the big name schools. Look at the starters on the DL this past year (Tukuafu, Bair, Ferras, and Rowe); only Tukuafu and Rowe were big-time recruits while Bair and Ferras got barely a sniff from any BCS schools besides Oregon. Until we start recruiting solidly along the DL, we won't entirely know how good a DC Aliotti is.NCDucks09 wrote:I voted Dargan and Lache. We've never had a position made up completely full of 4-5*s. Never. That isn't needed for success. Our DBs have all been 2-3* & they have had incredible production. The problem on D isn't a lack of talent. Its coaching.greenyellow wrote:I've always felt that NA's D struggles at times because he is forced to bring blitzes from the LBs and secondary to shore up weak spots in the DL. When all you have to work with is undersized D-linemen, 5'9" DB's, slow MLB's, and 4-5th string WR's converted to OLB's, it's a little tough to say coaching is the problem.dthomas=ddixon wrote:

Remember when we had Igor and Ngata on the line side by side? Wasn't that 2003 and 2004.... If it wasn't for an inept offense a couple of years there, we would have been much better teams. In 2005 we would have been Pac-10 Champs and possibly a BCS game, except for the greatest team in NCAA football stopped us in our tracks.
In 2000, I remember this DT, Zach Freiter, man that kid was big and nasty! I think he had the squat record up to that point in time. That was a pretty good D, with Bauman, Smith, Mallard, Morretti, Freiter, and several others.
In 2010, we can be really freaking good, but only if we can get some size up front and in the middle. Our secondary and linebacking corps are the best I've ever seen talent-wise at Oregon (from a speed standpoint). We just need some big strong and mean kids in the middle to make that Defense multi-dimensional...

Re: Poll: so...who are we gonna get?
So why, when we have a Defensive backfield made up of 3 first day NFL picks & another likely late rounder, did we get picked apart through the air all season in 08? The Dline was really good that year. We were top 25 in run D & Reed and Tukuafu were all over QBs. Thats because of coaching.NCDucks09 wrote:When all you have to work with is undersized D-linemen, 5'9" DB's, slow MLB's, and 4-5th string WR's converted to OLB's, it's a little tough to say coaching is the problem.dthomas=ddixon wrote:

EVERY team would be great if every position had all 4-5*s but thats completely unrealistic. We aren't SC or Texas or Florida. To say that thats the solution is just silly. Of course our D would be good if we were loaded with 4 & 5*s. Duh.
Next years Dline will be good. We have a lot of veteran size & strength coming back. Its not next year that is the problem. Its once all those guys graduate after next year. We will need some DTs to step in. Again, we don't need DT recruits for next year, its the years after next.
