Coaching Hot Seat

It's never too early to speculate about what coaches are on the hot seat this year and who might replace them if they get fired.

The big ones that everyone has been talking about are Napier at Florida and DeBoer at Alabama. Who do you think is on the hot seat right now if they don't have a strong season and who do you think would replace them?

With the first two:
-If Napier gets canned, I've gotta think Jedd Fisch or Alex Golesh would be the first phone call made.
-If DeBoer actually gets canned (I think he would get a 3rd year), then I think Cignetti or Swinney would get the first call.

The ones I will be curious to watch are Venables at OU, Fickel at Wisconsin, Elliott at Virginia, Pry at Virginia Tech, Foster at UCLA, Pittman at Arkansas, and Gundy at OK State.

Locally, it would be interesting to see what happens at Oregon State and Boise State.

Things I will be watching:
-Would Heupel leave Tennessee for Oklahoma if that job was open?
-Would Dabo leave Clemson for Bama if that job was open, given the way this season has started?
-Would Wisconsin go after someone like Leipold who is from the state and has overperformed at his current school?
-Would Beamer ever leave South Carolina for Virginia Tech?
-Would Lashlee leave SMU for Arkansas if the job was open?
-If Washington lost Fisch to Florida, who would they target as their next coach?
-Which of the G5 coaches in Texas would OK State target if they canned Gundy?

I would absolutely love it if Florida canned Napier and got Jedd Fisch!

Debore looks like he will get going in the right direction. Swinney might end up on the hot list if he keeps losing

Napier will be fired, and Fisch will be going home

In the Big 10, I think Fickel seat is getting hot and Dorrell err I mean Foster will be fired for sure.

I’m watching USC at Purdue, and USC has some dudes but they are very poorly coached. Dumb penalties and they just don’t have good attitudes. I could see USC potentially going like 8-4 this season and Riley ditching for an NFL OC job or something like that.

I think Will Stein will be at the top of a lot of these upcoming top HC hires whereas I'm not sure how schools will view Tosh Lupoi as HC material. Maybe he's just a quality DC who is still quite young and comfortable with his situation or he won't be viewed as highly as Stein until we win a National Title.

DeShaun Foster is a dead man walking at UCLA. That would seem to be an appealing job, but they haven't been successful since Jim Mora despite USC's struggles and moving to the Big Ten. Stein and the Florida State DC would make sense.

Brent Pry at Virginia Tech also probably needs armed guards just to walk around his campus.

If Stein took a HC opportunity somewhere, I wonder if Lanning would consider someone like Warren Ruggerio. He had a good bit of success at Wake Forest, so it would be interesting to see what someone like that could do with our level of talent. Dickert cleaned house when he got there, so Ruggerio is an Analyst for Iowa this season. He's generally been pretty well regarded.

It's gotta be pretty frustrating to keep losing coordinators every time head coaching jobs open up and have to comb the ranks to find a new one. I wonder if Stein has an understudy who could take over when he leaves.

I considered DeShaun Foster's hiring a poor man's Dion Sanders hire. By that I mean that more weight was given to the coaches ability via 'star' power to attract better athletes and increase the level of excitement around the program and thus increase donor revenue, over proven or potential coaching ability.

Do you think that there's any validity to that assessment (Foster or Sanders), and do you think there is a trend in this type of hire? I think there is at least one coach out east that would fit that model.

Idk about the Foster:Deion comp when Deion has such a massive personality that Foster seems more like Helfrich to me.

Karl Darrell and Jim Mora are the two coaches I thought they needed to give more time to too but hey, who remembers Chianti Dan Guerrero?

It's all a matter of perspective, but I think Scott Frost to Nebraska, Dillingham to ASU, and Cristobal to Miami as being similar, where an alum with a ton of school pride tries to help a program through a difficult time.
