Great post, thank you!pezsez1 wrote: Sat Sep 13, 2025 2:26 pm I understand the decision to not honor him specifically in these politically charged times. But I almost feel the University could have honored him with a moment of unity against political violence in general. From Jan. 6 to the assassination of the Minnesota lawmaker to the assassination of Kirk, there's been devastating political violence that's left Americans grappling with issues of sadness, justice, fairness, and what will happen next.
A mention of Kirk and a moment of unity against the violence that took his life could have been meaningful to everyone.
Also, my sincere best wishes to those of you on this forum who really valued his presence. Clearly, I don't agree with a lot of stuff he said, but I can't imagine how gutted I'd feel if someone like Jon Stewart (The Daily Show) were assassinated in that manner. This is America, and nobody should ever be killed for sharing opinions. Sad & ugly times we are in.

I respect everything that Coach Lanning said today. I was already a big fan, but I respect him even more after what he said because he will likely get flack from both sides. I'm in the same camp as him. Regardless of how anyone feels about Charlie Kirk as a person (good, bad, or indifferent), nobody deserves to be murdered like that and nobody's children should have to see their father murdered like that. I'll give kudos to coach Lanning for continuing to show that he is just a genuinely good dude.

I knew of him. Had watched some short clips. I believe most him sitting a a table with the “prove me wrong” poster. Maybe some With him doing questions not sure. It was not until after his death I actually dove in and watched time 6 hours of content. Watching him with his daughters, His wife’s comments of their life and just the sparkle I saw in his eye his eye as he spoke (Dan lanning has that as well) made me feel me think I would enjoy talking to him no matter the subject or politics. He just seemed passionate and I believe he f
Felt strongly in his topics just as my daughter often does as well. He was young enough to be my son. And if he was his drive and determination would have made me very proud even if I not agree with everything he said. He obviously had good taste in college team tastes.

I was at the game where they asked for a moment of silence for John McCain. If a warmonger like him who died at a ripe old age rates acknowledgement, I think Charlie Kirk, a serious duck fan, can get a mention. I wasn't a listener, but my kids certainly were and this has hit them pretty hard. It's the most high-profile assassination maybe in decades and uncovers something really ugly in our country. Pretending it didn't happen or shouldn't be spoken about is the wrong strategy and I am glad Lanning prepared something to say about it. I especially liked the bit about valuing life. It should be an obvious thing, but based on some of the reactions I have seen, it seems like a lot of people have lost their moral bearings.

So we are now actively deleting posts in this thread? I see how my concerns were unjustified. I will restate what was scrubbed this thread is inherently political. Moreover, deleting one viewpoint is not going to help the situation it will only make this worse.

I personally think you're fine. Since it's someone whose fame is tied to their edgy political stances, and nothing else, it is inherently political as Zyme said to bring him up (which in my opinion is fine, because I think honest discourse is healthy). Unless people here grew up in his hometown or are family members, the only reason they know who he is is because of his comments on society, race and religion. If the posters on this thread aren't ready to talk about those things, then perhaps leave the topic off a public forum.duckfan96 wrote: Sun Sep 14, 2025 6:32 am 1. I, also, feel this thread was fine and was intended as an acknowledgment to a murdered Duck fan with national recognition. While I do not feel this was a political thread I can and do see the connection made to politics simply from what Charlie Kirk was about and who he was. While I do not get involved in the political threads on this board, usually…. I have no problem with them and often enjoy reading them, they can say so much about who people are on the other keyboards in this group. This forum is for Duck fans and is about Duck sports but like most forums, other topics come up such as politics. This forum has a few political threads and I have no problem with that but I hope the communication between members can stay civil with some entertainment factor allowed, lol. This thread wass well intended and imo, it was place on a page that was acceptable for most others…… good posting.duckfan96 wrote: Sun Sep 14, 2025 6:32 am 1. Re: Sorry if this is in wrong spot
Posting one's thoughts in a thread is not 'grandstanding'.
The fact that Coach Lanning spent a good part of his presser talking about Charlie and valuing life makes it fair game to talk about here as well. Frankly, I have no idea what is 'edgy' about Kirk's opinions, but I haven't listened to him a lot. I think edgy is probably in the eye of the beholder. In any case, his opinions are irrelevant to a discussion about a peaceful human being getting publicly assassinated. Talking is not the same as violence.

Acknowledging Charlie Kirk as an Oregon fan wasn't an issue. pezsez1 could even discuss it with a level head without getting overtly political, as did Lanning. People thinking we needed to hear about his political stances wasn't necessary. I'll be keeping this thread open with close monitoring in case Oregon does do some further acknowledgement of him being a fan.

Agreed. Honor and respect a human being who was also a fellow ducks fan! I personally think Charlie was an exceptional human, but even if you don’t, we can all condemn public assassinations against anyone in our country. Hope the ducks win it all this year for Charlie!greenyellow wrote: Sun Sep 14, 2025 10:37 am Acknowledging Charlie Kirk as an Oregon fan wasn't an issue. pezsez1 could even discuss it with a level head without getting overtly political, as did Lanning. To whomever it was that I told I would support my earlier post via PM, I didn't get your screenname before GY and UOTK chose to go full CCP on this thread again. Give me a holler.

I can't find the right supporting post, but I heard somewhere that Oregon plans to leave a seat open forever, with a plaque honoring him. Anybody else see this?
