Re: NCAA to remove spring transfer window
I had created a separate thread in 'other guys' but makes sense to migrate it here.
https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... w-football
There were reasonable pros and cons, as well as individual considerations. Moving to one transfer portal window generally makes things easier for coaching staffs who value predictability, and who might have been juggling recruiting with game prep and other duties. Negatively, schools have different academic calendars and no single window, unless it's in the summer, would be conducive to all member schools. Further, schools located in northern climates felt this gave a recruiting advantage to southern schools, as northern schools were reluctant to have visits from potential transfers concentrated during a time when it will probably be wet and snowy while southern schools will have their most moderate weather of the year.
For better or worse, there will likely be a lawsuit at some point where a student-athlete will argue that the NCAA cannot tell them when they can leave school or begin at a new one. Given the history of cases against the NCAA, I would put my money on them winning, so the single portal window may be short-lived.

It would seem more reasonable to keep the spring portal window and close the fall one, which gives teams that don’t make the postseason/playoffs a competitive advantage.

Why wouldn't the transfer portal be like at end of fall / early winter? Something around Mid Dec - Early Feb. Gives all teams a chance to dabble.

Understood, but giving some time after playoffs would help with that?StevensTechU wrote: Thu Sep 18, 2025 10:07 amConflicts with bowl and playoff games.UOducksTK1 wrote: Thu Sep 18, 2025 9:54 am Why wouldn't the transfer portal be like at end of fall / early winter?
