I think that was fake news. Doubt Oregon would do this for anyone unless they were greatly tied to the program / an alumni. Maybe for someone like Phil.AutzenMember wrote: Mon Sep 15, 2025 10:17 am I can't find the right supporting post, but I heard somewhere that Oregon plans to leave a seat open forever, with a plaque honoring him. Anybody else see this?

My search produced nothing coming officially from the University. It seems there are a number of suggested gestures from various sources on the interwebs.AutzenMember wrote: Mon Sep 15, 2025 10:17 am I can't find the right supporting post, but I heard somewhere that Oregon plans to leave a seat open forever, with a plaque honoring him. Only did that to take much of the unnecessary political back and forth out of this thread.StevensTechU wrote: Sun Sep 14, 2025 9:08 pm To whomever it was that I told I would support my earlier post via PM, I didn't get your screenname before GY and UOTK chose to go full CCP on this thread again. Give me a holler.

Agreed. You usually need to be a major donor at a min, or notable alumni, or administer. He doesn't check any of those boxes. He was a commentator or political theorist with a connection to Oregon is as a fan only.UOducksTK1 wrote: Mon Sep 15, 2025 10:35 amI think that was fake news. Re: Sorry if this is in wrong spot
FYI...
Was there any mention of this at the game yesterday?
Was there any mention of this at the game yesterday?
The University of Oregon's public tribute to Charlie Kirk at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon, scheduled for today, September 21, 2025. This is a distinct, university-specific commemoration honoring Kirk's lifelong fandom of the Oregon Ducks, separate from the larger national memorial service organized by Turning Point USA at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona (which features high-profile speakers like President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance). The UO event was confirmed after initial plans for an in-game acknowledgment during yesterday's Ducks vs. Oregon State Beavers matchup were postponed to allow for this dedicated gathering. It has been described as a historic moment, transforming the 54,000-seat football stadium—typically a hub for Ducks games—into a site for national political and patriotic reflection. The tribute emphasizes Kirk's legacy as a devoted Ducks supporter, conservative activist, and "American legend," with organizers highlighting themes of unity, patriotism, and resilience in the face of political violence (Kirk was assassinated on September 10, 2025, during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah). While not a full funeral or multi-hour program like the Arizona event, it focuses on a concise, visual celebration of his life.
Key Details
Date: Sunday, September 21, 2025 (today)
Time: Exact start time not specified in announcements, but the core program features a 15-minute tribute segment. Gates are expected to open in the morning (likely around 9-10 a.m. PT, based on similar stadium events; attendees should arrive early for parking and security).
Location: Autzen Stadium, 1274 University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403 (home of the Oregon Ducks football team, overlooking the Willamette River).
Duration: Approximately 15-30 minutes for the main tribute, with potential for informal gatherings before/after.
Capacity: Up to 54,000 seats; expected attendance in the thousands, given Kirk's strong ties to Oregon's conservative student groups and Ducks fanbase.
Cost: Free and open to the public—no tickets required, first-come, first-served seating.
Organizers: University of Oregon Athletics and Administration, in collaboration with Turning Point USA's Oregon chapters and Ducks leadership (e.g., influenced by head coach Dan Lanning's prior public statements honoring Kirk).
Program and Activities
Core Tribute: A 15-minute video presentation on the stadium's massive jumbotron, showcasing highlights from Kirk's life, speeches, activism with Turning Point USA, and his personal connection to the Ducks (he was a lifelong fan, often attending games and referencing the team in his work).
Theme and Messaging: The official poster and announcements use the tagline "Join us in celebrating the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Charlie Kirk, an American legend." Expect elements of prayer, moments of silence, and patriotic displays, similar to prior vigils in Eugene (e.g., the September 13 candlelight march to Hayward Field with ~1,000 attendees chanting "We are Charlie Kirk").
No Live Speakers Confirmed: Unlike the Arizona event, this appears focused on visual/media tribute rather than speeches. However, university officials or TPUSA representatives may offer brief remarks.
Atmosphere: Informal and community-driven, with opportunities for Ducks fans to gather. Attendees are encouraged to wear green and yellow (Ducks colors) alongside red, white, and blue for patriotism. No formal worship or extended program is planned.
Background and Significance
This event stems from widespread calls for the Ducks to honor Kirk after his death, amplified by Coach Lanning's viral September 13 press conference where he condemned political violence and praised Kirk as a "true Oregon fan." Initial plans for a pregame moment of silence during yesterday's rivalry game were shifted to this standalone tribute to allow broader participation. It's seen as a bold statement from a public university in liberal-leaning Oregon, blending sports fandom with national mourning—experts note it's unprecedented for a college stadium to host such a politically charged, non-athletic commemoration. Erika Kirk (Charlie's widow and TPUSA CEO) has publicly thanked the Ducks for the gesture, tying it to her husband's love for the team. If you're in Eugene, this is a poignant way to pay respects locally. For the full national service, tune into the Arizona livestream starting at 11 a.m. MST (2 p.m. ET) on fightforcharlie.com or Fox News. Updates may evolve as the day progresses—feel free to ask for real-time checks!

Re: Sorry if this is in wrong spot
A lot of Facebook slop accounts posting fake information about the University itself holding tributes, memorials etc. Mostly just engagement bait or otherwise people looking to give the appearance of institutional support for their politics.
